We had the good fortune of connecting with Shalaya Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shalaya, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
The person I am today is a huge believer in work life balance. It is very important, At a point in my life I was that person that felt like work was my top priority. I would even dream about work Lol. It took me getting physically and mentally tired to realize that changes needed to be made. Now I make sure I have time for myself. Time for family and friends as well. I no longer feel bad for taking a vacation. I no longer feel bad for taking a day to reflect and regroup when things in life get a little too busy. Work feels so much better when you’re living life and enjoying your personal life as well, Sometimes you may have a hiccup but you can reel yourself back in and remember how can you do your best work if you aren’t stress free and focused.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have only been creating content for a year now. Being a full time content creator is what i eventually plan to do full time. This is something that i’ve been wanting to do since I was 18 years old… I am now 30 years old. lol. I am proud of myself for finally coming out my shell and just going for It. Creating content is not easy. Especially now being that it’s so popular. I do know for a fact it’s still room for me in this content creating world. Me being consistent is what got me the opportunity to do this interview so hopefully I am headed in the right direction. What I’ve learned is keep your eyes on your own journey. We all will have our time. I cant look at how someone else may have reached success overnight and feel that should be me. MY time is just that MY TIME and I feel as if it’s coming very soon. I want my brand to show people all over its ok to unapologetically be yourself. Do what you feel is best for you. My end goal is to have deals with brands showing how great their products are. I see myself being invited to luxury fashion shows, Showcasing new collections for the brands, Creating content for new location openings, etc. I feel like my content tells a story. I am great at catching visions and angles. Im very excited about seeing where I am 3 years from now.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For dinner we would most definitely dine at R and H rooftop bar. The ambiance is great and so is the food. Service is 10/10 as well. Another option that I just recently tried is Mezzaluna. It’s an Italian restaurant the food is outstanding. Coop 303 is also another good food option. Actually where that restaurant is located its so many other good options o try as well. ifly Indoor skydiving would be great to do something adventurous. If we wanted to pick each others brain we could always try The Escape Room. The Cummer Museum is a great place to get some history in. They have a cafe as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are 2 people that support and encourage me non stop with no limits and thats my mom and significant other. There have been so many days where i wanted to give up. There were so many days where I felt maybe creating content isn’t for me. These 2 have given me so many pep talks, wiped so many of my tears and told me not to give up. Especially being that creating content is something that I truly enjoy. They have invested in me in so many ways. I am forever grateful for them both and love them dearly.
