We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Minton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I dedicated the first half of my career to building other people’s businesses. I worked for a handful of company’s that were just starting out and I LOVED it. I got to learn every aspect of the business, help make decisions that impacted growth and every day was different. I was with my last company for almost 10 years and I had given them everything I had. Then one summer my Grandmother got sick. I was in work every day at 6 am, left for 2 hours to be with her, went back to work till 6, went back to the hospital till 8 and washed, rinsed, repeated for 10 weeks. I never missed a single day of work until she passed. The first time one of the owner’s referenced that I had taken six months off to tend to my Grandmother, I knew that I was not being appreciated.
I started to realize how much of my life I had dedicated to other’ people’s success. And while I hadn’t ever run a business of my own, I knew that I had the skills and the drive to make it happen.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My professional life has some twists and turns, but they all led me to where I am today. I started out in Telecommunications from the ground up. I learned how to draft processes, manage operations, manage people, all of the skills I use in my business came from that foundation. When I decided to leave corporate, I bought a travel franchise with my cousin and in the blink of an eye we were business owners. It was not always easy, but it was fun and rewarding and we were on target to have our biggest sales year yet when the pandemic hit. We decided to sell our business and were fortunate enough to be able to do so, towards the end of 2020.
I knew I didn’t want to go back to corporate America, but I wasn’t sure what I could do. And i sort of stumbled in being a Life Coach. I have been on a 20 year self discovery journey and I had already done a lot of work on myself. I loved helping people and was passionate about assisting them in learning who they were and who they wanted to be.
I have had a successful practice for the last 3 years with one on one coaching, group coaching and workshops. But I am most excited about my new project called The Delusion Experiment. The project is two weeks. In the first week we do a series of exercises to help you identify where you are versus where you want to be. Then in the second week, we gaslight ourselves into embodying the habits and characteristics of the Hottest, Most Successful Versions of ourselves! It’s fun and deep and any one can do something for a week!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I grew up on the shore in New Jersey, so the first stop would be to Rook Coffee for an Iced New Orleans. And while we were in the area we have to stop at the Windmill for a hot dog! The Wonder Bar has a great out door bar where you can bring your dog, it’s so much fun! We would go to the boardwalk at Point Pleasant or Seaside, hit AC for a show and some gambling, tour some great wineries and distilleries. And no trip would be complete without a stop at Ellery’s in Middlesex!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends absolutely deserve credit. I have a wonderful circle of friends who believe in me and never fail to encourage me to fly! In addition I have been a long time member of two networking groups that have helped me to gain confidence in myself, understand my goals and how to achieve them and most importantly supported me when my business had to pivot in 2020.
