We had the good fortune of connecting with TaiTai Sa-Ra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TaiTai, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue an artistic career since I grew up always creating and having a broad imagination. I first started drawing when I was around 6 or 7 years old using old CDs to create face shapes on paper. From that point forward I continued to participate in activities that would grow my skills as an artist. Back then I never considered myself an artist, more so just a kid that enjoyed doing something new and using art to communicate my emotions. My uncle would have to be one of my major motivators since he was also an artist and I wanted to further that legacy in my family.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would consider my art as something that invokes movement and form. I enjoy creating dynamic shapes through my art as well as touching on realism and the details within that area. My art from a 3rd view allows for the viewer to see and create their own concept as well as get the gears turning on what the possible meaning could be behind each piece. My path to art was not always a direct one, I challenged myself to learn many different forms and kind of got lost in comparing my progress as an artist with others whom had found their style. I would say even now I am still finding the style that resonates the most with my story and the story I want to tell.
In terms of the future, I would hope to see my art on more people in terms of my tattooing as well as showing my art in more galleries as well. I believe that my art shows something new and vibrant as well as showing my own perceptions of how things can look and feel.
For people whom are looking into my brand and my story, I would say that I began my career in art as a hobby and I still consider it a hobby but one I enjoy to do more often than not. Art is an expressive medium and I want to express and share my art with others as well as make those connections with individuals who are also on their own journeys within the creative realm.
My art is about flowing with time, nothing is ever linear.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would say in the city of Denver I would take them to some local cafe’s and Boba tea spots. I’m an avid café lover and do most of my work in them day to day so I would want them to experience our cafes and the atmosphere. Carbon Café would be one of the coolest places to find good food, donuts and a nice area to work. The atmosphere is very chill and allows for good conversations to roll through if you are hanging out with friends or coworkers.
Another fun place would have to be Meow Wolf, I have yet to experience the wonderful museum but it has been a staple place to visit since its opening. It allows for excitement and a bit of adventure and it is a perfect place to hangout and look at cool installments.
Lastly, in terms of food I would say Bonchon has the best Korean fried chicken that I have tried and would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting and is looking for Korean food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my friends, family and mentors that have all participated in my growth as a person, artist and tattooist. I would not be the woman I am today without my mother and I thank her everyday for being there for me and also providing me with advice and knowledge. I also can thank Rob Gray for seeing my talent and believing in me in the past two years of me living in Denver. All the while providing me with opportunities to grow and connect in the art community. Major thanks to him as well as fellow artists that are close friends of mine.
