We had the good fortune of connecting with Taniesha DePluzer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taniesha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always loved creating with my hands, and I am in my element whenever I am creating something or performing any task that involves serving the people around me. That is ultimately how I express my love and show gratitude. (It was through this desire to express myself through creating and serving that led to the birth of Indelible Bliss, with the purpose in mind of creating homemade products that are geared towards self-care and relaxation. I was going through a period in my life where I felt extremely stressed and overwhelmed, and the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic didn’t make this stress and angst that I was feeling any easier. Most people were stuck at home during this time as we all can remember, and as such, I began using my extra time to research different products I could create for myself that could aid in reducing stress and have aromatherapy benefits. That’s when I stumbled across the wonderful world of candle and soap making. I was fascinated with the entire process and I immediately fell in love with this craft, and I have not looked back ever since. I had finally found something I truly enjoyed doing, and what’s even better is that I am able to earn from it.
For me, a candle represents light. It’s a simple reminder that even in the darkest of times a flicker of light can inspire hope. When I think of candle making, I didn’t want to create something that only smells great, but I also wanted it to hold a sort of significance for the user. As such, I took time out to research the essential oils for each candle and came up with quotes that would best match the scent of the candle. This gave life to my first candle line, “Positive Vybz” which carried candles with names such as “Pray…let it go”, “Be still…Breathe”, and “Sis…you got this” just to name a few. These are words on the vessel that the user can use as a daily mantra/intentional quote to encourage themselves. We currently have three candle lines, Positive Vybz line, Seasonal collection and our Luxe Collection, we also carry an organic skincare line consisting of, scrubs, body butters and soaps.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been interested in owning my own business, even from a very young age. This was the driving force behind me owning several small businesses throughout the years, some of which failed miserably, but all have provided me with the invaluable lessons and skills I now apply in my business on a daily basis. Skills such as proper record keeping, applying proven and even new methods to attract customers, and general store upkeep, are few of the activities that keeps me busy for the most part. I would have to say though, in the beginning, the one activity that use to take up a large portion of my time was researching, designing, and then producing the varied products I carry. I truly obsess over every detail relating to my products, because ultimately what I want for my customers, is for them to truly have an indelible experience. Otherwise, I will generally take every chance I can get to network with other business owners in my community, to find potential opportunities for growth and expansion.
I want the world to know that I am just a wife, a mom and a business owner that wants to add value in the lives of my customers by creating good, clean products made with love that will remind them of the importance of self-care, and to learn how to spark moments of bliss in their lives daily. I firmly believe that by taking care of ourselves, we are better able to take care of the people in our lives and by extension impacting the world positively.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love downtown Chicago; I would first take them on an architectural boat tour, then to the famous Shedd Aquarium, and then to the Skydeck at the Willis tower. We would definitely have dinner at Gibson’s Steak house, and have drinks and hang out admiring amazing views of the city at the London house roof top bar.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have played such an instrumental role in my development as a business woman, and in my personal life. The first person that comes to mind in this regard is my mother. She is the living embodiment of resilience and determination, as she possesses a will that says if you fall down, pick yourself up, learn from your mistake and try again. This has enabled me to keep pushing through even on the toughest of days. I’ve also been fortunate enough to be surrounded by family members and friends that were always pushing the boundaries of self-development and building legacies themselves. Lastly, I would like to give a shoutout to my husband who believes that I can conquer the world and to my children that remain as my solid foundation and drive for further success. Their faces remain a motivational factor to keep striving for more, with the hope that I will leave a heritage behind that they can build on.
