We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Olson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krista, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Growing up in Wisconsin, risk-taking was often avoided. My family had a knack for planning everything out, postponing my exposure to risk. My high school years were filled with the feeling of failure, even over small mistakes. As a result, my avoidance to failure stopped me from taking risks until I moved away from my hometown for college. In this new environment, I was exposed to my peers taking more risks to discover life. Taking a note from my peers, I grew the desire to build the foundation of my identity by being open to taking little risks.

It took me until my college years to finally figure out what it even meant to take risks and explore what life and the world had to offer. Everything from eating new foods to trying new hobbies was a brand new venture for me. My life experiences began to expand.
After graduating in 2016, I began my career as a Fashion Designer for a local corporate company. My 3 year employment ended suddenly after the company went bankrupt. Dispite circumstances out of my control, I felt like this was a direct failure on my part.
With my world flipped upside down and my identity on trial, I was able to look at change with a new perspective. I started traveling around the country to gain new experiences to further my understanding of who I wanted to become.
A few months after loosing my job, I was moved to start over by uprooting my life and relocated to the mountains of Colorado. At this point, I had nothing tying me down in Wisconsin and I felt like I had nothing else to lose. This was the first massive change I’ve ever done without anything planned for the future and took on each day as it came.

After settling into Denver, I built up a sturdy and loyal friend group around me to make sure I was surrounded by like-minded people who pushed me to be the best version of me. This included entrepreneurs, hard working and passionate human beings.

While in Colorado, I worked very hard for a new corporate business that I found, but it turned out I was eventually overworked and under paid. I was being stretched too thin and didn’t have any sense of work-life balance that I was searching for. Just over a year into the job, I didn’t feel as valued anymore and decided to quit. Again, taking a massive leap of faith in myself, I started my small business from scratch in the middle of the pandemic.
I fully emerced myself to this monumental life-altering change. This time, it was much easier to devote my efforts because I survived and even thrived after loosing my dream career job and moving across the country. This gave me the confidence to make, yet another, risky move. The difference was I now had a full team of friends that pushed me out of my comfort zone and would do anything to help me succeed.
Two years after starting my own wedding gown alterations business, it is still continuously growing strong. I never thought building a business would be so fulfilling. I believe everyone needs to figure out their own unique recipe for success by making sure to explore every opportunity of risk. I love surrounding myself with people who inspire and stick by my side even when the road gets extremely tough. I am not going to say the path was easy, but it turned out it was high risk, high reward and I am extremely grateful.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love this city. It fits in with my active lifestyle and my willingness to change and grow. My favorite places to eat would be Cart-Driver, Taki Sushi, DBC and Snooze. I always highly recommend Punch Bowl Social for the vibe and super fun atmosphere for a hangout place. Of course, everyone has to at least go on one hike while in Colorado. There are some amazing close hiking spots in Golden with an amazing view.
