We had the good fortune of connecting with Tapp Francke Ingolia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tapp, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business out of need. I was sick for so long with chronic lyme disease and was unable to find help in the conventional world of medicine. I found my way to Functional Medicine and worked with amazing practitioners who helped get me back on my feet. After I climbed my way out of the chronic illness rabbit hole using functional/integrative methods. I was so impressed in how these tools brought be back to vibrant health, that I went back to school and received a Masters degree in Clinical Nutrition and Integrative Health so that I could officially start to help other people do the same. I opened the doors at STANDwellness in 2013. It has done nothing but grow ever since! I think the best businesses come from the identification of a need that is not being met. STANDwellness fills a gap in the healthcare system that helps people to optimize their body’s potential- no matter what stage they are. If they are deep in a chronic illness like autoimmune disease, or chronic inflammatory issues, or just wanting to be more proactive with their health, the tools that STANDwellness provides can help to raise that person’s baseline. Often that results in a significant reduction in symptoms, and in some cases, complete resolution.
The perspective that I take at STANDwellness- is how can we make each individual better? I look at diet, genetics, lifestyle factors, current medications, past history, and gut health to get a complete understanding of who they are and what they need to make their body and strong and healthy as it can be. Disease comes from imbalance. We help bring their body’s back into balance.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my business around 10 years ago. It started out with just me seeing nutrition clients. Now we have a comprehensive integrative health center where people can come for so many different health-revitalizing treatments. We offer PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field), infrared sauna, inhaled H2, red light therapy and biomagnetism. Since graduating from my masters programs and receiving my CNS certification I have also completed a specialty certification in epigenetics, which helps me to understand my clients in a very detailed way. Having a genetic interpretation is like getting an owners manual for your body! We have grown so much in 10 years I can’t believe what the little business I started with has become. I spend at least 70% of my day on tele-health, the rest of my clients I see in-person.
I think the thing that has struck me the most about this business is how it has grown so organically. I have never advertised. It’s all been word of mouth. It feels so good to help people feel their best.
I think one of the things that sets STANDwellness apart is that I came from a place of chronic illness. I think when you have had the experience of going through those health struggles, it changes you. As a practitioner I can be so much more empathetic because I have been there myself. The advice I give my clients I have done myself. I literally walk the walk.
In 2021, at the height of the pandemic I started posting on Instagram. I did it mostly to make something funny and light, but informative. That grew exponentially and now I have a wonderful active, engaged community of 30,000+ I post about all things good health like food, recipes, and lifestyle factors that help heal the body. It’s really fun and I love what a wide audience it allows me to reach. My community on IG is @standwellness.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am always grateful to The Morrison Center for being an integral part of my “back to health” story. They have been there for me every step of the way, even sponsoring me for some of my Clinical training hours. Their support has been a huge part of my success both in regaining my health and in my business. The Morrison Center now has a satellite office in my space in Water Mill.
