We had the good fortune of connecting with Tarikh Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tarikh, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art was my first love. I used to think drawing comic books would be my forever job. When I was in college I studied art and was one of maybe three black students in that program. After college I worked in video games for a few years before joining the United States Army. That was the reason I moved to Colorado; to serve. After getting out of the military I was able to be a Maker for the pikes peak library. That allowed me to teach drawing classes and fall in love with comics again.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Art is my first love. I studied art at Humboldt State University. The main thing that sets my art apart is the stories behind the pieces. I’m at a place where I’m refocused on art. Sometimes life makes me forget I’m a artist first. Making a living in art is difficult but not impossible, I see a lot of friends like Detour 303 doing it really big. I just want to be one of the next big Colorado artist. Adversity is apart of life and I plan to do some big projects in 2022. From comics to film. I want to world to know that Tarikh Brown continues to dream big!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start at Coati. Then go see the Urban Classic by Terry Josiah. Find a event Vinyl and Patties is djing at. Then make sure you hit up Kno Fi which is Colorado version of the Low End Theory and Project Blowed. Also hit up some of the thrifts stores in the city like The Hause.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Chloe Brown, my wife. My best friend and my rock. The love of my life. I appreciate her so much.
