We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Norberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, why did you pursue a creative career?
I believe creativity has the biggest impact on humanity’s growth and understanding of our world. As an author, I’m allowed to spread a hopeful message through an entertaining, digestible medium. My greatest passion is in conveying the relationship we can have with our environment, which is why I write to spread doses of realistic sustainable practices, positive community impacts, and climate optimism to others!

My first published piece, Travel Like a Local | Denver, shares my personal insights and local knowledge to help readers uncover hidden gems and authentic experiences in my dynamic Mile High City (found on Amazon, Kindle and Barnes and Noble). This travel book features an entire section on how to visit Denver with a planet-first mindset (think: refill shops and public transit)! My upcoming fiction novel has helped me uncover an optimism amid our changing climate that I wish to share with those seeking hope. A creative career means that I am putting a unique combination of words into the world that didn’t exist before to give a valuable commentary on humanity, which I believe can be one’s greatest accomplishment.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is made from my words. With pen to paper or fingers to keyboard, I convey hopeful messages through authentic, illustrative scenes. At the surface, my stories are entertaining microcosms of life with flawed but easily loveable ensembles of characters. When contemplated deeper, my stories reveal a humanitarian undertone, with hope always at the core of its purpose.

To be a writer, I’ve had to spend limitless hours refining my craft, taking courses, listening to industry podcasts, reading feedback on my work and analyzing other published pieces. The dedication I’ve channeled into this creative endeavor has been fueled by pure passion and longing for my creativity to impact others. I yearn for a piece of my soul to provide entertainment and introspection for others. To kick start my career, I’ve taken every opportunity I can to build my portfolio of written works regardless of the monetary gain. Right now I am driven by my desire to be seen.

With an internal force compelling me onward and all the tangible actions I’ve taken, I believe I have a true chance of fulfilling my dreams of becoming a recognizable author. To all my fellow aspiring creatives, I truly believe that to find success in a creative career you must put in the work, have an unexplainable knack for the craft, and want it deep within your bones.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As the author of Travel Like a Local | Denver, it seems like this question might have been made for me!

Let’s just say it happens to be the first Friday of the month, so the Santa Fe Arts District has blossomed into an atmosphere of festival proportions. Food trucks line the side streets and pedestrians swarm the storefronts. The Santa Fe First Friday Art Walk will be first on the agenda. One minute we’ll be gawking at life-size wooden carvings of monstrous creatures, and the next we’ll be in a glow-in-the-dark warehouse wondering where that futuristic music is bumping from.

To refuel from our night of artistic exploration, we’re heading to Saturday brunch at Safta, which will serve us unmatched Israeli flavors with subtle influences from the Middle East, Europe, and North Africa. This local favorite lies within the heart of The Source (a hotel-slash-culinary complex inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese design elements).

We’ll then spend the afternoon at a Rockies game to mingle at the bars on The Rooftop section where we might only catch a glimpse of the diamond every now and then! To end the night, I’m taking us to Herb’s Hideout for cheap, sticky drinks and the funkiest live music atmosphere in downtown Denver.

Sunday morning I’m whisking us to the largest, busiest Farmers’ Market in Denver: Pearl Street Farmers’ Market. The long stretch of stalls can get really crowded by mid-morning, so us locals know to go bright and early when the market opens at 9 a.m.

After perusing with our cold brews and breakfast burritos, I’ll take us on a bike tour starting at the heart of Wash Park. We’ll glide along the bike path that follows the park, watching groups set up volleyball nets as far as the eye can see. Once we’ve circled the park, we’ll traverse up the Cherry Creek Bike Path underneath Speer Boulevard until we’re spit out at the REI Flagship store. To end our epic Denverite weekend, my best friend will snag a souvenir from the giant brick building towering over our Platte River that consists of three stories, a rock wall, a Starbucks, and any outdoor gear they could possibly need!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to The Gathering Place, a Denver non-profit dedicated to serving women, transgender and non-binary individuals, and children who are experiencing poverty and homelessness. Their Colfax day shelter includes hot meals served by volunteers, mental health counseling, career and housing mentorship, and even a wardrobe room with every bra size imaginable! The Gathering Place’s warm, inviting day shelter provides such a massive relief for people to find support and meet their basic needs, so they can pursue a higher quality of life. The dedication, hard work, and love of its staff literally pours out of its walls when you step inside.
