We had the good fortune of connecting with Tommy Dyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tommy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
From a young age I always had an interest in making things. This career path fulfills my basic passion of creating something to be enjoyed by other people, whether it’s a visual graphic, environment, service, or product experience. The greatest part of what I do is to see a product come to fruition in the hands of others. Especially when you take a risk at creating something outside of the norm, there may be some self doubt of it’s reception, but when you see someone “understand” or “get it” and enjoy it, that is the most rewarding.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are the second owners of Brix Brew & Tap, taking it from more of a tap-house focus to focusing more on being a brewery. I’d like to think what sets us apart is our approach to our local demographic. We don’t want to be just a brewery, but a place to congregate and see friends or make friends, all behind a great product. Having a good ear to the ground and staying involved in our community here in Greeley is very important to us.

None of my journey with this business has been easy, in fact it has been extremely hard, but I’ve always loved a challenge. I personally overcome challenges by faith and the people I surround myself with.

The lessons learned through running the brewery are likely endless, but I have to say, there’s one thing that sticks out to me for success, and that’s finding a great staff and investing into them. Help them grow and give them purpose. This not only keeps them happy but it makes my life easier.

One thing I hope to convey in our brand is authenticity. I know this word has become cliche, but I do not throw it around lightly. We all wear our hearts on our sleeve here at Brix and have battled through adversity while being the “small fish” in town. Our customers can see that genuineness serving them. Now the product, in our case beer, well, that’s the icing on the cake. We are proud of what we can deliver to your glass.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would have to show them the community we have in downtown Greeley. It’s a quaint area with a lot of great small businesses that are all very connected to the city through their owners. Whether it’s breweries, distilleries, restaurants, arcade or shopping, it’s all within walking distance of each other.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people throughout my life that I could attribute any success I might have to. My parents Greg & Kim, my wife Whitney, my father in-law Phil, my staff, good friend Tom Shaw, a supportive local chamber of commerce and many others. I’m not big reader, but Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends & Influence People” is such a great foundation for basic human relations that has helped me at a young age.
