We had the good fortune of connecting with Joaish and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joaish, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Ever since I was a little kid, I had a vividly imaginative mind. Even then I would write stories, draw characters, or act out my favorite video game or movie characters in many different ways. I would even draw out dungeon maps in the same style as the Legend of Zelda series. As I grew older, I continued to write stories for fun, varying as the years went by from fantasy to sci-fi and in various formats such as books or tv shows. Around my high school years, I found a fanmade video game maker that was a recreation of the original Zelda’s engine. While back in those early days I used it as a fun way to make my own Zelda game, I eventually saw it as a tool I could use for more creative and original writings, which led to the creation of one of my favorite games made in that engine, The Slipstream. This greatly sparked my interest in game design in addition to the other avenues. As the years went by and I grew older, life was getting busier for one reason or another and some of the more creative processes I once did regularly were not as often a part of my life in nearly as much of the same way as before. This all changed in August 2018, when I decided to try out livestreaming on Twitch. I had always been interesting in video game speedruns where you beat a game as fast as possible with all the tools available to you in the game, including glitches and sequence breaks. I started streaming The Wind Waker HD speedruns as a way to record my runs, but what began as that eventually grew into what I would now consider my main outlet for creativity. This media and following I built up over the years on Twitch gradually brought back all of those creative interests that once interested me at a younger age, but now I had a place to show for all of them. Creativity is an incredibly rewarding and expressive experience, it can benefit both myself and others, and that is why it has become such a passion for me through the many avenues I have chosen to present it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Twitch streamer and Youtuber who specializes in a wide mix of creative works that you would not often see together with such attention to detail. My channel began as a Wind Waker HD speedrunning stream, but it has grown from there to include a variety of other high level speedruns from both the Zelda and Mario series, casual playthroughs, multiplayer games with viewers, short films presented on Youtube such as The Minds of Joosh and Pieces of Mind, live game design streams, and said games free for everyone to play such as The Slipstream or The Deep. Some specialize in speedrunning, some in filmmaking, some in game design, I dabble in all three to bring variety to a whole new level. My content is also clean so anyone is able to watch and enjoy. We also joke around a lot and have an overall chill and relaxing environment. I think the biggest challenge with streaming and creative work is growing, which is something I continue to push for every day. I have learned throughout my years of doing this that if you purely enjoy what you do, then you will put the best effort into it than you ever would compared to something you felt obligated to or forced yourself to do. On the streaming side of things, I’ve learned that with that philosophy, people enjoy watching a streamer who enjoys what they are doing, regardless of whether the thing being presented is not the most trendy thing on the market. I would love to keep this as a consistent part of my life and further grow it into something much bigger. While that is my goal, no matter what happens, I am thankful for the support I already do have and for the people that show it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For fun, I know of some particular places around the area that when put together over the course of the week would give us a great time of minigolf, bowling, the zoo, and some unique shops that you would never see anywhere else. For food, we would go to some of the local places to get a unique taste of the area’s delicacies. We would also make sure to go to Whataburger at least once. While I don’t live in Texas anymore, there just happens to be a few where I live and I do believe that experiencing this Texas delight and its Dr Pepper shakes are an experience worth having.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my community on Twitch for always being there and being supportive and helping me to continue doing what I love doing on there. I especially want to shoutout my parents who raised me into the person I am today and for their unconditional support to this day. I would also like to shoutout the friends that pushed me to get the streaming equipment to stream the Wind Waker HD speedruns when they learned I was in 7th place at the time.
