We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevor Rhodes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trevor, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Hard work, consistency, quality, dedication and most important of all, a good attitude!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been in the food service/hotel industry for 20 years and the 3 most important lessons that I learned was.
1. I wanted to work for myself.
2. Do not say yes to everything.
3. Quality over quantity.
Opening Melody’s Food Cart was not easy by any means. Finding a permanent location was the hardest part, there are so many rules and regulations about where a food truck can operate. I kept getting no answers for locations and I started to loose hope. Until one day I was bartending at Bakers’ Brewery and proposed the idea to operate in the corner of the parking lot. With Bakers’ approval I took pictures of the food cart in its location and sent it to the town and they approved!! After that it was putting all the pieces together.
At Melody’s you will receive quality service and food as I am the only worker. I shop, prep, cook, take orders and run the books. I see every aspect of the business and there is no grey area. Each item is prepared with its own special recipe and is made from scratch.
This is a dream come true, as is owning any business and lucky for me I love to cook. Every meal I make as good as if I was preparing it for myself or my family. Quality is of the essence and I take pride in my food.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so much to do in Summit County we are so lucky to be here.
In the winter I love to ride Keystone or Copper, even when it’s busy it doesn’t seem as hectic as some other resorts.
You can literally walk out the back door and start hiking a mountain or go ice fishing at Lake Dillon, snow shoeing through the frozen forests or riding ATVs off road through fresh powder. On a really cold day I take my daughter bowling or swimming at the Rec. Center.
In the summer, the parks are green, the fish are fresh out of the lake and the scenery is beautiful. I thoroughly enjoy taking the boat out and cruising around the lake all day. Or dock at Silverthorne and drive across the Lake to Frisco for lunch and head back. I truly fell in love with this town.
Best places to eat, I would have to say Melody’s Food Cart for breakfast, it’s quick, easy, filling and keeps you on the go!
As for lunch or dinner, I always go to The Bakers’ Brewery. The food, beer and staff is amazing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, my shoutout goes to my daughter. She is my inspiration and keeps me working hard everyday. I also would like to shoutout my family and everyone at The Bakers’ Brewery, without their support I would not be the success I am today.
