Meet Veronica C. Gonzales

We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica C. Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veronica C., what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
That my profession exists. The Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP) is a very new profession just implemented in June 2024. I am one of the first LLPs in Colorado. I took the exam in April 2024 and was sworn in with the first Cohort Jube 20, 2024. I’ve been practicing family law ever since then. LLPs are similar to attorneys in that we are licensed to practice law. We are different as we are only allowed to practice Family Law and have a few limitations in the types of cases we can take and in our role as counsel during hearings.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been working in the legal field for over 27 years, primarily as a paralegal, and I’ve dedicated most of that time to family law because it’s where I feel I can make the biggest impact. Today, I’m a Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP), which allows me to directly represent clients at a more affordable rate than traditional attorneys—something I’m really proud of. I believe quality legal representation shouldn’t be out of reach just because legal fees are out of reach financially.

Getting to this point in my career hasn’t always been easy. I raised my daughter as a single mother while building my professional life, often balancing long work hours with the responsibilities of being a full-time parent. That experience shaped not only who I am, but also how I work. I deeply empathize with my clients—many of whom are navigating similar challenges—and I always strive to approach each case with both compassion and efficiency.

One thing that sets me apart is how grounded I am in the realities my clients face. I don’t just understand the law; I understand what it feels like to be in a life transition, trying to protect your family, your finances, and your future all at once. That perspective guides my approach: I try to resolve matters without unnecessary conflict, and I’m always mindful of both my clients’ goals and the costs involved.

Practicing and helping to build Juniper Family Law, a boutique firm founded by Louisa Schlieben, has given me the opportunity to help create something meaningful from the ground up. I’ve been with the firm since day one, and I’m deeply committed to our mission. We’ve developed an environment that’s warm, supportive, and professional—a place where clients feel truly heard and comfortable confiding in us. I’m excited to continue growing with the firm and eventually becoming a partner.

What I want people to know about me is that I care deeply. I’ve worked hard to build a career that’s not just about legal knowledge, but about service, trust, and showing up for people during one of the hardest times in their lives. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s made me strong, capable, and incredibly proud of the work I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit for a week, I’d make sure they experienced a mix of the best nightlife, nature, food, and culture this area has to offer—starting with some of my favorite spots in Rhino and then off to Broadway.

We’d kick things off with dinner at Sushirama in Rhino—I love the fun, modern vibe and the sushi is always a hit. After that, we’d head to Canopy for drinks and dancing—it’s one of my favorite places to let loose, with great music and a fun crowd.

At some point during the week, I’d take them out to Old Town Arvada for a relaxed evening of dinner and drinks—it’s such a charming area with a walkable, local feel that people don’t always think to explore. And it would be a great opportunity to show off my office.

Midweek, we’d do a little mini getaway and drive out to Glenwood Springs to soak in Iron Mountain Hot Springs—it’s the perfect mix of relaxation and scenery. We’d explore the town, shop at some of the local boutiques, and grab a delicious meal at Smoke, a great BBQ spot with a local twist.

We’d also get outdoors and hike some of my favorite trails near town—nothing too intense, but enough to take in the views and get moving.

And no visit would be complete without catching a show at Red Rocks—it’s one of those iconic venues that gives you goosebumps, and it’s such a special experience to share with someone.

Overall, I’d want their trip to feel like a mix of adventure, connection, and just genuinely fun memories—everything I love about living here.”

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Lili is my daughter, she is the reason I have been successful in my life. As she was growing up, I took time to raise her while also advancing in my career as a paralegal. When I learned about the LLP program she was 18 and the first one I told. She has been my biggest reason to succeed, not only so I could give her a great life but also to show her that she too can be successful.

I met Louisa working at a law firm about 7 or 8 years ago. I was her paralegal and she was always so supportive of me, always letting me know how great I was doing and how much she appreciated a good paralegal. When she found out I was sitting for the LLP exam, she was very supportive and sometimes more confident than I felt that I was going to pass and become an LLP. She asked me to join her brand new firm, whether I would be an LLP or Paralegal. She has included me in all major decisions for the firm and partnership is on the table. She has been one of my biggest supporters in my journey to become an LLP and we are building this firm for success.
