We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Pyatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was being called to make a big move to a career that utilized my creativity and interpersonal skills. A dream I had carried for a long, long time. I had to go back to school and start from scratch in a completely new field which was frightening – but I had a lot of family support. I knew what I wanted and I had people in the same line of work to show me the ropes and offer endless advice. I knew the work of building a business would be so hard, but I was confident that I would have people to catch me when I fell.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been an artist, just not pen-to-paper. I love to create and always have some creative project going on. In my business, hair is my canvas, and people are my passion. I love the relationships I have with my clients, and above all I love making them feel beautiful. The joy of my heart in this industry is inspiring confidence in those who sit in my chair. As someone who has struggled with confidence all my life, I know how important it is, especially as a woman, to love yourself and the body you are in. If I can show my clients how to take a step toward loving themselves even just a little more, I am fulfilling my purpose.

I love all things hair-related, but I especially love the world of color. It has always made sense to me, and I remember the moment, even where I was standing, when I realized I LOVED working with color. I wanted to focus my efforts on learning everything color-related that I could. I have taken many color classes, watched countless educational videos, and am always trying to stay current on the latest techniques and trends. Vivid colors are my favorite to work with, and are what many people ask me for. I suppose that is what sets me apart from some stylists, but I also hope that when my clients sit in my chair I make them feel valuable. That is what I want to truly set me apart.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love living in Colorado Springs! I have been here most of my life. Some of my favorite places to visit are Garden of the Gods, for beautiful views. I love Manitou and Old Colorado City for shopping and finding unique treasures. I love to eat at Jake and Telly’s. They have some amazing Mediterranean food, and a very cute balcony seating area. Other great visits are the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family deserves ALL the credit for any success I may have in the beauty industry. My husband supported this crazy endeavor from the start. He put up with our wild schedule, made so many sacrifices, always showed up, and encouraged in all the ways we needed in that season. Others in family, who are also in the beauty industry, offered education, advice and support. To this day, they still are there for me when I need lifting up. I cannot succeed without these people on my life.
