I’m a big believer that people “overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in five-ten”. Living in a society where instant gratification is normalized – shopping, communication, etc. – delayed gratification in business can be challenging to wrap our heads around. In a world that feels ‘full of crazy’ right now, being a small business owner has been a challenge. Certainly any business is challenging during a pandemic and societal shutdown, but small and local relies on fewer and less plentiful resources. As part of a plan to stay alive, we had to rethink how we buy and sell and especially how we stay in touch with new and loyal customers. Online and social media sales remained steady as we offered and promoted free, curbside and safe delivery. We figured the market would tell us as we moved along, and we would know if it worked or didn’t. It did. We are still here. In person events and markets have diminished for the time being, but we are hopeful as we look to the future for opportunities. We have continued to share our love of fashion and partnership through shared spaces. Read more>>
You can’t. When you believe in something, and are passionate about it, you are either in or you’re out – 100%. On the days that I want to give up – whether its my epilepsy, feeling overwhelmed and tired from our crazy schedule, or when people think that I am blogging and creating Meal Plans just for fun. But, then I get a review from someone who my Meal Plans have helped, and it changes my attitude, helping me stay focused, knowing that what I do really helps other families, just like mine save money and eat healthier. And while my health also gives me many challenges that definitely make me want to hide in a hole somedays, it also gives me the strength that I need to keep going. That combined with my my passion for making sure no one goes hungry is what fuels the fire to keep burning even on days when I don’t feel like it. Read more>>
Fortunately I have other income and am able to keep going. I pay close attention to the expenses that I have for my art and always try to keep them at a minimum. I am able to recycle and reuse a lot of my art supplies and find it part of the challenge. Giving up is not an option. I must create my art. Read more>>
