We had the good fortune of connecting with Abbey Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abbey, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Hands down, the biggest lesson I’ve learned from being a business owner, is you have to embrace your lowest lows and know that if you can make it through, there are almost always other opportunities waiting on the other side. The first year I was in business and would lose a client, I would immediately go into panic mode. I would say “yes” to almost anything that came along, regardless if it was a good fit, just for the money. I had the “quantity over quality” mindset and if you’ve ever been there, you know it gets exhausting very quickly. A good friend of mine started coaching me through those moments and I soon learned that letting go of something, only opened up space for a better opportunity. Once I changed my mindset to this approach, it was amazing to see just how true that was. I’ve continued to use this approach over the years, and while it’s not always easy, it works out for the better every single time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Assist for the Win is a full-service Digital Marketing agency that helps small businesses elevate their brand, position their authority and drive results with our online marketing strategies and services. While most digital marketing companies either offer marketing strategy OR marketing services, we offer the best of both worlds. We pride ourselves on taking the time to get to know each and every client so we can best understand their brand messaging and voice to bring quality content to their target audience.

Like most business owners, I started as a solopreneur and wore all the hats in my business, which often meant working 12-14 hour days. I quickly became burned out and realized I needed to invest in my company in order to better my company. I now have an internal team of three and several amazing contractors that help run my business efficiently and effectively.

My best business decision to date was getting an office space outside of my home. I have an amazing office at The Village Workspace in Centennial, CO, and have never loved going to work more! I have met many other incredible business owners, many of whom I have collaborated with and the sense of community is just what I never realized I was missing. The best part is being able to shut down at the end of the day, go home, and leave work at the office.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Denver is a beautiful place to visit and has something for just about anyone! Here are some of my favorite spots!

* Favorite Brunch Restaurant: Breakfast on Broadway – has the best biscuits and gravy and of course, bottomless mimosas!

* Favorite Dive Bar: Without question, The Castle, which is conveniently two blocks from my house. They have award-winning burgers, super cheap drinks, and karaoke, and it literally looks like a castle on the outside!

* Favorite Day Trip: Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park

* Best Concert Venue: The famous Red Rocks Amphitheater

* One-of-a-Kind Experience: Casa Bonita – this Denver staple is NOT known for its food but more for the experience. It was recently bought by the creators of South Park and is set to re-open at the end of the year.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without my amazing friend and mentor, Katie Schroeder. I wouldn’t even have a business. She was the one who encouraged me to scrap the idea of looking for a traditional 9-5 job and instead, start my own business. I had never in a million years ever thought about being a business owner and had zero ideas of where to start. Luckily for me, Katie owned her own business and took me under her wing from day one. She’s still my go-to person to this day and I couldn’t be more grateful for her!
