We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoe Zyvith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zoe, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially, I had no intention of creating a business or monetizing anything I was doing. My goal was to share my passions with others and build a community of people who shared those same values. I am constantly inspired by amazing photographers and their travels which is what inspired me to learn photography and start my social media accounts. I wanted to create a safe space for people at all outdoorsy levels. Whether that’s someone who has never hiked before to someone who hikes mountains every weekend. As a female who moved out to Colorado with zero friends and family, it was challenging to figure out what I loved and find people to discover those passions with me. As a quickly developed a love for hiking/camping and just being outside, I wanted to encourage everyone to do the same! I truly believe that adventuring and being outside is for everyone. I also realized that I wanted to create beautiful images in beautiful places and share them with everyone. It was only recently, that I started to partner with brands and businesses that I love and started to monetize the work I was doing solely for myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been doing photography for about a year now. While I am still very much an amateur I am so proud of how much I have grown. I started out learning on a film camera which has really helped me truly learn my camera settings rather than relying on an automatic digital. If you look at my social media pages you’ll see a lot of images with myself in them, however, I love shooting landscape and nature images with my friends as the subjects. Although I recently have mainly been focusing on shooting with a digital camera, I love how film lets you create a different kind of story through different types of film. I want to use photography to show my audience/friends/family what my adventures are, what they mean to me, and how I see these places through my eyes. I find that my composition and editing style is a way that I get to define myself and differentiate myself from others. While I see my editing style progressing as I become more advanced in my skills, I am excited to see that growth! Although I am really proud of what I am creating now, I am so excited to see how my technique will grow and how my photography will look in a few years from now. It has definitely been challenging to not compare yourself to others through the number of followers they have on Instagram or what their images look like. I certainly struggle with this a ton, however I try to remind myself that they’ve most likely been doing this for years and I still have so much room to grow to become the photographer that I want to be. My goal is to create beautiful images that encourage others to pursue their passions, get outside and explore this great big world because we only have such a short amount of time on it so why not make the most of it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh gosh there’s so much to do! Here’s a list of places that I would definitely take my friends.

For Hiking/Outdoors:
Rocky Mountain National Park: Sky Pond Trail and drive up Trail Ridge Road
Red Rocks: For either some hiking or a concert because it’s gorgeous. I love coming here for sunrise
Saint Mary’s Glacier: Not too far from Denver, and such a beautiful easy hike for people who may not be completely acclimated to the elevation
Mount Bierstadt: For my very adventurous friends who want a challenge, I’ll take them to do Mt. Bierstadt as their first 14er (mountain with an elevation of higher than 14,000 feet). It’s such a fun hike and a good option for a first 14er without being too far from the city.

Food/Drinks:
Dio Mio: My favorite for pasta in RiNo
Safta: Their hummus is to die for and you can’t go wrong with a cocktail at The Woods in the Source Hotel before dinner
La Loteria: I go here literally every Tuesday for taco Tuesday. I get the Tinga de Pollo and the Crispy Camarones tacos every time
Himchuli: I recently just went and oh my gosh this place is good. Some of the best Indian/Nepalese I’ve had in a while.
Milk Tea People: Hands down my favorite place in the entire city for a beverage. I go out of my way for this place; the people are the nicest. You must try the Jasmine Cheese Cream!
Williams and Graham: Located in LoHi and it’s my favorite speakeasy for a fun delicious cocktail.

Places to see:
The Dairy Block: I love walking around the dairy block and going into their bar for a drink and some happy hour food
RiNo: This may be my favorite neighborhood in Denver, because of all the street art and places to go. I love checking out the local boutiques, breweries and restaurants.
Botanical Gardens: I’ve been here once and it’s beautiful. It’s a great calming activity and during the winter months, they have a gorgeous light show near the holidays.
City Park: During the summer they have music shows and it’s a lovely place to watch the sunset and enjoy a picnic with some friends. You get a beautiful view of the skyline and the mountains.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My partner, Martin, has been extremely supportive from the start! When I first told him I wanted to invest in photography and sharing on social media he was completely on board. He is always encouraging me to be creative with shoots and is always giving different video suggestions. Some might say he’s a pretty good Instagram BF. My friends and family have also been extremely encouraging. My dad used to shoot on film and he has loved seeing me get into both film & digital photography. Fun fact, the first camera I started shooting on was his old Nikon film camera. When I told my friends from back home that I wanted to start sharing my outdoorsy journey and build a blog they couldn’t have been more excited. Without all these supportive people in my life, I wouldn’t feel as motivated as I do.
