Meet Nicole Rogers | Certified Clinical Aromatherapist & Herbalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my business was very simple. During my Aromatherapy Certification, I would make products to test on friends and family. Then once I graduated, I continued to just give all my creations away. It was friends who suggested I started my own business. I really never thought of it initially because I loved giving the people close to me healthier alternatives to personal care and home use products.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The part of my business I am most proud of is specializing in making the products as the customer orders them. It may take a few days longer to ship out, but I think that is what sets me apart. Nothing is sitting on the shelves for an extended period. The reason I do this is because of the expiration dates of the ingredients. Each ingredient has different expiration dates, from the essential oils to the hydrosols to the plant oils. I want to ensure what my customers get is a fresh batch of their product.
Starting out was not easy. There was some struggle. I am a single mom, so trying to start a business, and work full time. I was also in the Air Force Reserves at this time before retiring in 2020, so again, was not easy at all. I also needed to ensure my children’s needs were met, who were 6 around this time. I felt aromatherapy was a calling so I knew I needed to find a way to make this happen. I started my business in March 2019 but wasn’t fully ready until July 2019. It got a little easier when I started to do holiday craft fairs at the end part of 2019.Thankfully I had a few friends who had their own businesses and could guide me to a certain point. The reset was trial and error and contacting the Dept of Revenue to make sure I was doing everything I needed to do They were really a great resource for me in the beginner.
My backstory on aromatherapy journey began in 2014 when my twins were only 2 years old. I wanted to find alternative ways to keep them healthy and change out our everyday products (including cleaning products) in the house. I was seeking advice from anyone I knew who was using essential oils. Around a year later I met a girl through mutual means and she gave me some essential oil advice (she had no formal aromatherapy training) that made me step back and think, that doesn’t sound right. It didn’t sound safe!
So at that moment, I realized I needed to be certified in aromatherapy. I wanted to be the expert to ensure no parent gets bad advice and possibly hurts their child. I got my clinical aromatherapy certification through the Aromahead Institute (2015) and the American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) (2017). While taking my aromatherapy program at ACHS, I started an interest in herbalism.
I completed the introductory (2019) and intermediate herbal courses (2021) at Herbal Academy and then went on to finish my Herbal Medicine program at ACHS (2021). Each of us is made differently. For example, during my practice/case studies, I noticed some essential oils were too strong for people and herbs were a complementary substitute for them. I felt having studied both alternatives and utilized them in my business, I would have a wider range of products to help people.
I am working on an eBook right now for diffusing. There is a right way and a wrong way to diffuse essential oils. So I wanted to create something the people can use to ensure longevity of essential oil use without any reactions.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to either Mount Princeton hot springs or Glenwood Springs hot springs. Since I am originally from the Boston area…which is where my aromatherapy business name Wicked Good Scentz was created from, there isn’t really anything like these hot springs back home. Then there are the cute mining towns near by where there is always some great places to eat and drink.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout out to the people in my life who support me and the new people who have come into my life through my business adventures and who continue to support my business. It really means the world to me.
