Meet Erinn Peet Lukes: musician, singer, songwriter, dog lover

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erinn Peet Lukes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erinn, how do you think about risk?
My work consists of writing, songwriting and working on my various instruments (guitar, voice, and more recently mandolin). For me, songwriting is the synthesis of everything I feel like I’m good at and love. I’ve been songwriting since I was 13, and have defined my artistic path by my songs. I moved to New York City after college to play music, and notably did not write any songs while I was there. I remember moving to Colorado and thinking “wow, my most recent song is 2 years old. Will it ever come back?” It did, of course. I’ve discovered that working on my singing and playing technique is an important part of my art overall, and have really been focusing on honing those skills in the last few years. I am moving to Nashville in January to continue my songwriting ventures, and I’m hoping to really focus on the songwriting craft when I’m there. I’m going to miss Denver a lot, but know that I could learn a lot out there and become more prolific! I’d like to not wait for inspiration, and instead just create way more. I wrote a lot of songs when I was bored in lockdown in March and April. I’d like to tap into that way more!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love writing songs and singing! It’s something I’ve done forever and won’t stop doing anytime soon, even in a pandemic

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love living in Golden, just west of Denver! If a friend was visiting, I’d take them on a hike to Mathews/Winter park, then maybe hop over to Red Rocks to get a view of the city. Then we’d head to Bonfire Burritos for a breakfast burrito and nitro cold brew. Maybe then we’d check out Chatfield State Park for their excellent dog park (my dog loves it there!)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out to the families of all my school age guitar and voice students I teach. Especially in this unpredictable year of COVID, I have relied on teaching music lessons as my bread and butter. It allows me the flexibility to play gigs and practice while also paying rent and putting money away for recording sessions. The families of my young students have always supported my career. Sometimes I have to cancel a lesson to get to a gig on time, or I need to teach lessons all summer to make up for gigs I’ve lost in a global pandemic. In both instances these families, some of whom have been with me for 6 years, are so flexible, supportive and encouraging as I navigate my musical journey.
