We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Robert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caroline, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Admittedly, I used to be quite a workaholic. When I first started my photography business right after college, I had many work days lead well into the night. I was photographing about 50 weddings a year on top of about 30 portrait sessions, it was too much. I didn’t have many friends, I was generally unhealthy, and while I was excited about this new venture, it wasn’t sustainable long term. Since then, I am happy to take my weekends completely off when I don’t have a wedding and enjoy my evenings off. Friends and hobbies are now a huge part of what keeps me inspired and creative during shoots.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think the 12 years of experience and 400 weddings has trained me to be a good & calm energy on the wedding day; I believe there shouldn’t be any added stress to an already beautifully busy day. I’m there to capture the moments in a natural way, blending into the wedding day seamlessly as to appear more like a friend rather than a random vendor. Weddings shouldn’t be approached in a formulaic way because it is the moments in between all the scheduled events that tend to be the most lasting. I’m there for the timeline and everything in between. I take my job very seriously. I care, more than I like to admit at times; your wedding day is a big deal to me. I want my photos to reflect how important this decision is and how meaningful the day is. Covering every single aspect of the wedding day well is my priority. It is such a fast paced day so assuring that I provide quality work of the details, the moments with your family, the portraits, the dancing, all the way to the exit is very important to me so you can relive the day for decades to come.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the RINO area of Denver so I’m a big fan of Larimer and all the spots on it. Ratio & Death and Co. being two of my favorite bars on the street. I love to show off the classic hikes near Denver, Chautauqua, Lookout Mountain, and Red Rocks are always easy spots for my Texas friends that aren’t quite adjusted to altitude yet. If we have more time to check out the mountains, Breckenridge is so easy and beautiful, the drive alone is worth it (as long as there’s no traffic on I-70!).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ten years ago in Austin, TX a group of wedding photographers met up for lunch and we have been friends ever since. Even though I’m mostly in Colorado these days, they’re still some of my closest and most inspiring friends.
