We had the good fortune of connecting with Cody Wissing and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cody, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We were both unhappy in the desk jobs we were in and really wanted to get back into the food industry. Once we fell in love with Playa Bowls, there was no question that we had to bring it to the Denver market. We felt we had to expand quickly to gain market hold, so after many, many discussions, we went for it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been loyal to the company I’ve worked for, from the ski shop I worked at all through high school, to the resort I worked within for 7 years while I was also completing my two degrees from Western State College. It definitely wasn’t easy along the way, but to me, professional growth is always about adapting and changing. The entire world is constantly doing this around all of us, and I believe adapting right along with it is the only way to be successful. If something is no longer working, I thrive on figuring out how to make it work again!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When visiting the Denver area, you always have to be outside! A perfect itinerary would be a walk around one of our amazing parks, like Wash Park or Sloans lake. Followed by a bowl at Playa Bowls of course! We love sports, so depending on what season, catching an Avs, Nuggets or Broncos game would be high up on the list. If you can squeeze in Red Rocks for a concert, thats a must do, but even just a visit will suffice. For dinner we absolutely love La Loma, we frequent it more than I should probably admit. We also love Bryan’s Dumpling House and Zomo, two hidden gems. If its the winter and you can make it up to ski a day or two, that would be top of the list as well!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The managers and supervisors I’ve had in my past careers have been so supportive of me every step of the way, they’ve taught me everything I know and I always say they turned me into the business owner I am today!
