We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Chaney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
We are working in the toughest real estate market many of us have seen. The low inventory and high prices are frustrating for buyers, sellers and Realtors. I mentor young agents and they are finding stepping into the market and starting to build their careers difficult. You have to keep your eye on the prize though. Real estate offers you so much freedom both financially and in your schedule while truly helping people. Homes are essential and the reward is helping your friends and family create a safe space for their loved ones to flourish. As a Realtor you get to be part of your clients life changes babies, puppies, weddings and sometimes even divorce. All those things are part the life experience and to bear witness as a professional and help people through those transitions is pretty damn special. You have to always keep going or you miss out on those moments. Giving up isn’t an option.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is built on honesty. When I first started in real estate there was this perception that Realtors were some where between used car salesmen and pawn shop buyers. Everyone thought we were out to make a buck. The reality is a good Realtor’s business is built on relationships. I want my clients to love their house for years to come so they refer me to other people. Sure I make my living from helping people buy and sell houses but I do it with a level of service and ethics that undeniable. I care about people and their life goals. I want to be thoughtful and intentional with my advice and help guide my clients into the right homes to work for their lives now and in the future.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When people are new to town or coming to visit there are few favorite go to spots. A Red Rocks concert is a must if you haven’t experienced one it would make even a band you loathed sound amazing. I love a visit to the Clifford Still museum because the space is beautiful and well designed and if you are there you might as well pop over to the Kirkland which is a one of kind trip into mid century art and collectables. Hitting the shops on South Broadway is always fun, Decade is one of my favorites which carries new kitsch items and vintage gems. There is so much great food in Denver it is hard to choose but I would grab brunch at Universal or dinner at Hop Alley for sure. Maybe highlighting our art scene with a walk through RiNo’s murals. My list is really endless!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The support of my friends is immeasurable. They have built my career by continuing to refer me to their friends who then also become my friends. The circle just keeps growing and I am honored to have built my business from those referrals.
