We had the good fortune of connecting with Ali Rezgui and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ali, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born and raised in Tunisia – a little country bordering the Mediterranean Sea on the African continent. At 17, I decided to move to France to discover a new country, culture, and people. Moving there on my own was difficult, but it taught me a great deal in a short amount of time. It taught me that if you want something badly enough, it can be accomplished. This is where I fell in love with boxing and made it my goal to someday live in the US, where so many boxing legends came from. While my upbringing has a lot to do with who I am, striking out on my own made me the person I am today – driven, relentless, dependent, and confident.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Savate teacher with over 35 years of teaching experience. I competed for more than a decade at a professional level.

I can look back on my youth with pride and feel blessed for all I’ve seen and the experiences I lived. But of all the experiences in my life, opening my very own boxing gym in the US was a moment I’ll never forget; it’s an achievement that was years in the making. Something that I’d wanted for a long time.

Reaching that goal took an incredible amount of courage. I had a great job, tons of friends, and great students in France, but I wanted to do more. I wanted to give a new direction to my life and challenge myself to reach a new level of success.

I wish I could say it was easy, but it wasn’t. The first couple of years were tough. Still, I never gave up and kept believing in my craft. I put it all on the line with endless hours thinking about marketing strategies and learning about my customers. In time, I earned respect in the industry and made a name for myself.

I learned that patience is key with anything you do, but having a well-thought-out plan will make it easier to understand what you’re waiting for.

BFS is more than a boxing gym; it’s the definition of the American Dream.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado Springs has changed a lot in the last decade, but it remains a fantastic city with a vibrant culture and breathtaking scenery.

If my best friend came to visit and didn’t mind getting up at the break of dawn, I would take him on an early morning hike up the Manitou Incline to catch the sunrise, followed by lunch at Paris Crepes for some phenomenal French-style crepes and coffee.

Depending on the season, I would take him on the Cog Pikes Peak Railway to stand atop my favorite mountain. We would hang out downtown and spend some time chatting with my friend Earl at Grey.ish Hair Studio.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout goes to my family. Starting a business not knowing much about the American culture, its language, and market was challenging. My family believed in my skills and never doubted that I would succeed. The journey had ups and downs, but my family was there to help me stay on track and achieve my goals. In hindsight, I’m thankful and humbled by everything we’ve accomplished together.
