Often we don’t have to reinvent the wheel to learn something new – we can just ask experts in the field who can draw on their experience to enlighten us. Below, we’ve shared insights insiders from various industries have shared with us.
Erin Meyers | Orthopedic Acupuncturist
I don’t think outsiders/the general public are aware of how effective acupuncture is and how many conditions it can treat. Also, different acupuncturists have different specialties and styles, so you may need to shop around to find an acupuncturist who is a good fit for you and your condition. I personally specialize in orthopedic or sports acupuncture, but my friend from acupuncture school specializes in women’s health. I’m aware that acupuncture has a reputation for being a little woo-woo, but I use range of motion and muscle strength tests to measure outcomes and almost never talk about Qi or meridians. Michelle Smith | Model
I think one thing many people don’t know about the modeling world is that models have insecurities too! Many models receive comments on their photos like “I wish I was as perfect as you” or “If I looked like you, I would have zero problems.” The reality is, models are regular people who have regular people problems, too. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes in terms of editing, lighting, posing, and makeup to get the perfect shot. Sometimes I get a photo back from a shoot and feel like I don’t even look like the person in it! This can mess with your head if you don’t keep yourself in check. Andrea Mauro | Video Producer, Editor & Founder at Pixel Lustre
The amount of time each aspect of production takes. We spend a decent amount of time educating clients on the logistics of the production process, from pre-production to the day-of-the-shoot through post-production and reviews. There are many little decisions in each phase that clients don’t realize we need to make until we’re guiding them through it. The process can be overwhelming especially if you haven’t completed a video project before whereas we’ve done it hundreds of times. When we wrap a project, the reward is clients thanking us for bringing their vision to life. They often say they did not understand what the process involved. We’re grateful to provide a true “behind the scenes” experience while acting as teachers and creators simultaneously. Read more>>
Jenny Pearson | Owner & Esthetician
I think some people think that facials are just fluffy, “luxury” treatments or that estheticians seem vain by telling everyone they need facials to look younger; but I chose to become an esthetician because I love making people feel good. As an esthetician it is my job to not only perform facial treatments but to also educate about skincare in general and to help clients learn how to take care of their unique skin type. It is so rewarding to see a client light up after their acne is cleared or watching a client become more confident without wearing makeup. Visits can be for relaxation, to start a new skincare routine or target bigger skincare concerns; but treatments will always be customized specifically for you. Read more>>
