Meet Aaron Butt | Graphic Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Butt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aaron, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Full disclosure, I am a full time graphic designer. I pursued an artistic career because fortunately for me I’m one of the few people who was able to take something that I enjoyed doing in my free time and exploited that into a job. This gets tricky for some people who don’t have a healthy work life balance though because you could end up resenting the art. Not me but some people.
Having an artsy fartsy career honestly is the only thing that works for me because i’m literally not good at much else.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is I have nicer hair and smell better, but in the context of artistry I would say that my art is an accumulation of everything about me. All of my life experiences, my likes, dislikes, how i’m feeling in the moment, or even the music I’m listening to at that time goes into every design. We’re all complex people and I like for my art to reflect my complexity and sometimes that looks like making something incredibly sad look pretty, or breathing life into something that’s not alive, or sometimes it’s just putting arms on a bird, again I’m complex.
What the world should know about my brand is that everything I do is for attention and I would really appreciate it if you said a bunch of nice things about it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ok first I always take my visiting friends to Angelo’s Taverna because I like their pizza a lot. I moved here from Detroit and we do pizza a little bit different over there than Denver, but Mr. Angelo I respect what you got going on over there.
Definitely taking them to some of the outstanding queer establishments here. XBAR for sure I like to drink and I like to dance. Would also catch a show there (support your local drag artists!!).
I tell my friends to only come in the fall because it’s my favorite time and also it’s the best time to take them into the mountains. I like to take friends to Glenwood Springs to see if they’re brave enough to get on the mountain rides.
Ideally I would like to time it with a Red Rocks show so if you’re my friend and you’re planning on visiting me any time soon, Hozier will be performing there on October 17th and 18th so come then.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh my god shoutout to the LGBTQIA+ community here in Denver like no joke they show up for me so much I am so grateful to be a part of it.
Shoutout to Joshua Novak he gave me my very first art show right before the pandemy which honestly was the first time I realized that people wanted to buy my designs because before I was just making my little pictures and posting them on my little instagram and going on about my day.
Shoutout Hayley Steiner who organizes a music and arts festival in RiNo that she has included me in multiple times.
Shoutout to literally anyone that has ever said a nice thing about my art, or even a nice thing about my hair, or clothes, or physical features (I am very superficial).
