We had the good fortune of connecting with Alice Tang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alice, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I wanted to create natural health and beauty products that are good for our health and environment.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I had always wanted to go into business for myself where I would provide products and services of value to others in exchange for their loyalty and hard-earned money. As eCommerce became more popular and mainstream, I tried to offer products that are relatively inexpensive that people use every day. I firmly believed a product must be of high quality and excellent value, something I would use myself before offering it to customers. The process was frustrating because the suppliers I bought my merchandises from initially did not subscribe to the same philosophy. I refused to put my brand on the subpar products and lost a good amount of my investment. This happened five different times before the current product line was established.
When I realized the increased demand for health and beauty products that are natural and not full of chemicals, I set out to find the best product I could find. As a result, Naturistick was born.
It consists of five flavors of all-natural lip balms, each made with 100% natural ingredients, non-GMO, no harsh chemicals, no alcohol, and no toxic substances that are harmful to our health and well-being. I then offered these wonderful products at prices well below that of the national brands.
It was not easy at the beginning. Sales were slow and didn’t even cover the costs. At one point I almost gave up but didn’t. I persisted and kept on creating value day after day, all from the customers’ perspective as much as possible.
As our customers saw the value and realized the benefits of using our products, our business grew year over year, organically. Word of mouth was and still is what we rely on. The business operates under one belief: “do everything within my power to keep the customer for life.”
Never give up, even in the darkest of hours, was how I overcame the challenges.
If I had to say what sets Naturistick apart from others, I would say Excellent Quality, Exceptional Value, and Extraordinary Customer Service. This is what I live by. It is not going to change.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would treat my friend to sushi and Starbucks. Chipotle or Five Guys would be my choices if we are running around and need to grab a bite quickly. We probably would take a walk in a nearby park afterwards to stretch the legs and dump all that calorie. If my friend enjoys nature like I do, I would recommend a visit to the Museum of Nature & Science and the Botanic Gardens. The Art Museum is another good choice.
Castlewood Canyon and Red Rocks Amphitheater are two of my favorite spots for outdoor activities. I would also bring my favorite food for a creek-side picnic to top all that off.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There were many setbacks and detours along the way, and it was tempting to quit at times. However, my inner voice kept whispering in my ear to keep going. I was fortunate to come across Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, a book by T. Harv Eker, and it inspired me to persevere and take even more action. I brought the whole family to his Warrior Camp in Canada. The program inspired me to create a meaningful life for myself and others, in spite of limitations and setbacks. It also motivated me to never give up in the face of challenges and difficulties.
