Meet Allison Roth | Automotive photographer and videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Roth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allison, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was working for a Fortune 500 company as a mid-level manager and had been there for over 10 years. I started to notice that I was no longer enjoying going in to work each day. I had always told myself that I wanted to do what I love, and if I didn’t enjoy work then it was time to do something different. As I started to think about how I could start doing something different I looked back on my past experiences and thought if not now, when? It just made sense at the time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is that I have been in the racing world as a racer and apart of a team. I know how much effort it takes to be successful and what it feels like when everything goes wrong. I have been photographing cars and trucks and been around cars and trucks since I got my drivers license. Starting with my first video camera and separate film camera to take with me on off-road trips with friends and family. I spent a lot of time learning about cars through work first as a valet at the 5 star 5 Diamond hotel The Broadmoor, getting to talk the owners of different amazing vehicles learning about them and at the same time learning what it means to the owners of these cars to be able to show them off. I now get to help an owner of a classic restored car show off that pride in their car through my photography. I then started working in sales at a nation car dealership chain. This gave me more experience with sales and marketing as well as continued opportunities to build connections with people as they were going through their car buying and selling journeys. These 2 jobs really helped me understand people and how to interact with people from a customer service perspective. When I started the race team a Friend had came to me and asked if I would help him start an off-road race team with the end goal of racing at the King of the Hammers in Johnson Valley California. This was definitely a new challenge. I fell in love with the racing world even before we took the starting line in our first race. Even though we were all competing against each other everyone was willing to jump in and help get each other to the starting line or even through the race. When I left racing due to personal reasons I never lost the bug to be apart of that world, and started looking for ways to get back into it. And than it all made sense, Motorsport photography! Getting to where I am at today has certainly not been easy but has been worth it absolutely every step of the way. Every time I have hit an obstacle I have leaned on my friends and family for advice. I firmly believe that everyone has a unique perspective that allows them to look at the world differently and the more perspectives I can have look at an obstacle the more ways I can come up with to solve the problem. Each time I overcome an obstacle is one more experience I can lean on for the next one. I don’t consider my self to have made it yet but I feel like I am still moving in the right direction and that is all I can ask for. I expect there to be many more obstacles along the way but I have all the confidence in the world that I will be able to overcome them because I have overcome everyone in my past.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Colorado Springs we have so many things to see and do, I almost don’t think 1 week is enough. You gotta go to the top of Pikes Peak either by the cog or driving. I prefer the drive but it isn’t for everyone. I also love getting to the Olympic training center and taking a tour is definitely a must. My absolute favorite thing to do is getting out to the mountains and enjoying them. Cripple Creek/Victor via Old Stage Road. You don’t even have to take advantage of the casinos in Cripple Creek to enjoy all the history of that old mining town. If you want somewhere to spend a day and learn more about the history of Colorado Springs The Broadmoor is a great place to go and walk around the property even if just for a day, local tip they don’t charge for valet parking for the day, all the employees know a lot about the history of the hotel and the surrounding are. There is also Helen Hunt falls the inspiration for “America the Beautiful” and 7 Falls. I think there are so many great places to eat and so many micro breweries that you really can’t go wrong with any of them. If my best friend was coming, I would take her to Estes Park/Rocky Mountain NP for a day as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have the best group of friends on the planet with out even one of them I’m not sure I would be where I am at today. They all know who they are, and I honestly have always been able to lean on them for advice or help. With them I have had so many experiences that have given me the confidence to start a business on my own, from starting a race team with them to traveling all over the country with the race team and overcoming every obstacle along the way. One person in particular who really helped push me to go out on my own is Rhiannon my best friend who actually lived directly next door to me when I lived in Texas. She has been there for me during some of my darkest days over the last few years. My mom has also been a huge supporter of me and everything I have done even helping me get through tough time financially while I build the business.
