We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Feinberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been inspired by the mountains and surroundings of my home in Colorado. As an active individual with curly hair, I’ve always looked for ways to manage my hair while still getting out there and exploring. Headbands had always been my solution. After buying a headband at a local ski area I had the idea that this was something I wanted to make myself. By creating my own product I could not only use these headbands as a canvas to showcase the places I love, but also tailor these headbands to fit my needs. After this idea was planted in my head I let it sit for a while until finally realizing that this is something I wanted to do, a product I could create to provide a solution to bad hair days through a functional and attractive product! From there it’s all been a journey of trial and error, but you’ll never know what exactly you need to do until you start and it’s been an extremely fulfilling journey starting Happi Headware and continuing to grow it every single day!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am at the end of the day, a college student! As I make my way towards the end of my second year of college I continue to balance business and school, something that’s definitely challenging at time but I enjoy the busyness and juggling both complement me in different ways and challenge me to adapt and learn new things! I started Happi Headware when I was 16 looking to create a product that fit my lifestyle and I was eager to share it with the world. So this school business balance is something that has always been a part of Happi Headware. I’ve learned so much through creating Happi Headware and it’s taught me how to approach and solve problems in my life, not to mention the amazing experience that I’ve been able to be a part from pitching my business at Title Nine to meeting tons of amazing female entrepreneurs throughout this journey. Happi Headware is aimed at creating a functional accessory that meets your needs and looks good while doing its job, being able to create a product that has reached people around the world is a truly unique experience and makes me want continue to innovate and to create new products!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Boulder has so much to offer and it’s so fun to show visitors around! I love the way someone can spend a day outside exploring and then end the day at one of the restaurants in Boulder. I would say a visit to Chautauqua is a must do, you can see the iconic Flatirons summer or winter from a great vantage point. If you are visiting during the winter, I would recommend driving 45 minutes up Boulder canyon for a scenic drive and a day of skiing at Eldora. While you’re up there, spend time exploring Nederland and the cute shops it has! Back in Boulder, you can rent bikes or bring your own and take a ride up my favorite climb in Boulder, Flagstaff road. It’s a challenging but rewarding climb with amazing views. After your ride spend the afternoon shopping on Pearl Street and stop by Ku Cha for some boba and lunch at Zoe Ma Ma. For dinner, hit up Bartaco for my favorite tacos or the Med. After dinner grab some ice cream at Ben and Jerry’s and stop to watch any street performers that are on Pearl that night!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely could not have started Happi Headware without my family and friends. Throughout the entire process of creating Happi Headware and still every single day, I turn to friends and family as my product testers, advisors and resources. Their input is what has made Happi Headware become what it is today. These people have been our models, our market researchers and our biggest cheerleaders so a big shoutout to all of them who continue to support and hype up Happi Headware!
