We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Creaven Creaven and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy Creaven, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
There were a lot of very different factors that went into my choice to have an artistic career. I was working in the field of dog training and many of my clients would have benefited from the use of a muzzle but there is a huge stigma about muzzled dogs. So I dove into creating my own line of “pretty” and approachable muzzles to help my clients access tools that they and their dogs needed for so many reasons.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run a small business that creates custom dog products out of Biothane (colorful synthetic leather). I am a mompreneur and recently hired two other moms to help me create these products. Given these times when many women have needed to leave the workforce to reinforce the homefronts, I am thrilled to offer these women opportunities to work (create) from home.

I started out training dogs and worked primarily with dogs that had various behavioral issues. I noticed that a lot of my clients could benefit from the use of muzzles but there was nothing that was accessible on the market so I started creating. When Covid shut down in-person services and my children lost their childcare (school and nanny) I decided to stay home with them and threw myself into muzzle creation and it exploded quickly into something that I haven’t been able to keep up with. So I’ve been expanding slowly and evaluating my business plans and slowly evolving into something that will be more sustainable for me as time goes on.

I’ve learned that while I don’t have all the answers someone does. I just need to find the right person to ask.

I want people to know that I am a passionate caring person and I hope my brand comes off that way as well. While my main product may seem “scary” it’s a tool and I hope to help destigmatize it so that it may be more accessible to others who need it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love going on hikes at Lory State Park or escaping into the woods with my friends and animals. Though in Fort Collins at least a stroll in Old Town would be a must. I also adore eating at breakfast places like Lucile’s and Snooze. A summer afternoon swim in the Poudre river or a paddle on a SUP out on Horsetooth Res is also wonderful!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have encouraged and continue to cheer me on along my journey. My husband has always listened and meddled in my business. My colleagues, while technically we are often competing companies they have always listened and offered support and kindness as well. It’s been nice to see how all of our businesses develop that we can complement each other and still maintain a comfortable market share.
