We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Ellingson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, why did you pursue a creative career?
The artistic path chose me! Ever since I was a little guy, the act of creating anything captivated my imagination and truly brought the most joy. Early on I started connecting the dots and saw that there was art in everything. From the way you conduct yourself to every other aspect imaginable. So I always knew deep down that I was meant to be an artist at the base of any pursuit. Art seems to live in everything, everywhere, all the time. I applied this perspective to every job, endeavor, duty, and craft. Now I get to create artwork for people to enjoy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My style is based around the idea of enjoying the moment you are in. I expose little moments all over each piece from the very first splatter to the final detail. Each moment is special and we get to find the beauty in all of them. Everyone should embrace the fact they are a work in progress and there is way more beauty there than if ever there were something perfect. I am most proud of the fact I am self employed and prime example that anything you dream of is possible. Even the most seemingly preposterous notion of making a living doing what you want. Now my little ones can just look at their daddy and see that it is possible for them to be whatever they want. All this sounds like a walk in the park with butterflies and sunshine. The reality of pursuing your dreams however can be rife with scrutiny, uncertainty and challenges. Overcoming these involves a good mindset, dedication, and perseverance. If you don’t fail, you’re not trying. The most difficult challenge for me was overcoming negative thoughts. When carving your own path, there can be so many occurrences that are easily perceived as “bad”. The positive side is to learn from these moments. What you can learn with an open mind is worth way more than any victory.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly the best place in town is home. The best food and drink, with plenty of entertainment and comforts right in one spot. There are some easy hikes near bear creek that can give you a view of the whole city and the Garden of the Gods park. It is as easy as going to the grocery store to catch a stunning scene.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to my loving wife. She is the real reason I have been able to reach for success and seize my dreams. Her unwavering support and belief in my capabilities have no doubt encouraged me to unforeseen levels of unstoppableness.
