We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was a mom who was always exhausted, I did not know not myself, I did not practice self- care, because I had no idea how to. It was never really modeled to me, I had just quit my teaching job that I absolutely loved and had become a stay at home mom, something that I never thought it would happen, it was never in my plans, and I had just welcome baby boy #3 into our home, Abelangel. I was tired, stressed, overwhelmed and my life felt crazy and with no purpose, because I identified with being a teacher and that had been taken away from me. During this first year of me being a stay at home mom I got invited to be a part of a program my sorority sister was launching, I did not ask any questions, I simply said yes, I saw it as I was a mom helping another mom, but what I did not know was that this is exactly what I needed. I had never heard of the terms or the concept of “personal development,” nor had I ever really practiced self care, I really had no idea who I was, what I liked, what I wanted to do in a year from now, I was just there. This program woke me up and the idea of creating a group for moms to come together and take care of themselves and learn to love themselves and learn that they are worthy of love, joy, and their dreams all while raising littles ones something that I felt was a necessity. And it is now called Moms Who Rise.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Helping mom to live and fulfill their lives while embracing motherhood is what I do. We see so many memes about moms with 8 arms looking exhausted and overwhelmed and we all laugh and relate to those exhausted mom memes way too much, I want to change that mindset. I do not believe we were given kids to be exhausted all the time, motherhood should not be our excuse it should be our reason WHY we do the things we do. We are raising the next generation, they are watching, they will walk the walk and talk the talk you do. It took me a long time to understand how important my role was as a mom and it took a lot of healing from my childhood, I am not saying we are going to be perfect, because perfection does not exist, I am saying we need to heal from past trauma, we need to work towards feeling alive and find joy in our lives so that we can be a present mom, a mom who doesn’t feel like she is about to lose it every single day. There are 3 simple things I do every morning, I wake up before everyone is my house does, I write down 10 things I am grateful for and I enjoy the silence.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the Greeley are I would take them to Cancun Restaurant or El Cielo for Mexican food. I would go to Sushi 1 for sushi. Another one of my favorite place is Coyote’s. I am sitting her giggling because I realize that I love food and I feel like you can have the best conversations over food. If we went for a drive we would go to Estes Park, it is beautiful.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Selisa Loeza, thank you so much for reaching out to me and inviting me to be a part of your group, I will forever be grateful for you sending me a message, I had no idea what I was signing up for and it transformed my life. You taught me self love and self care and it has changed my life forever. I am a better ME, a better mom and wife because of YOU. I know you may not see it that way, but I will forever be grateful for you. Thank you for following your calling and empowering other women like me.
