We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Markiewicz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, what matters most to you?
One of the main important principles that matter most to me when it comes to my business is to be kind to every potential client, even if they don’t choose me in the end. Put in the effort to find a photographer that meets their requirements if you are unavailable for the shoot, and they will remember the consideration and time commitment that you provided for them and they will reach out again for future gigs. I recently got contacted for a newborn photoshoot and I couldn’t meet the time constraint and commitment they went with another photographer, but made sure to message me letting me know that for future shoots they will reach out to me. They didn’t have to say that, but they reminded me of how important it is to not get upset that a future client went with another photographer.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting to where I am was not easy, I have been taking photos professionally since my senior year of high school. There were many naysayers that told me to give up this profession because it was going to be so difficult to make money. But my parents told me to continue on and not listen to what those people are saying. If anything, I take those people as a challenge to push myself and work extra harder to prove them wrong.
What sets me apart from others is that I am always willing to learn, and I am comfortable with the uncomfortable. I want to dedicate my free time to perfecting my skills and continuing to practice over and over until I am satisfied with the result. I am most excited about the opportunities to come, this year I was a photography guest judge at a convention for the first time and got a chance to share my journey in this interview. Things can only go up from here so I am very excited to see where photography is going to take me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a sucker for experiences. If my friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever I would start the days outside in nature. Confluence Park during the summer is best, you can watch people take their tubes and go down the river or walk along that path. Head over to Union Station and enjoy the farmer’s markets that are there every Sunday morning to shop local and see what Colorado has to offer. If you’re still hungry, my weakness is ramen. Across the station is Jinya Ramen Bar, their Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen is divine. While your belly is full, walk it off at Larimer Square and go shopping. In the summer there is small block parties and festivals happening to go and enjoy. To make their experience really fun, I would end the night at Meow Wolf Convergence Station. I recently went and had the best time, this place is great for people of all ages and everyone will enjoy themselves.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate all of my success to my parents, they taught me to never give up my passions, and even when things get tough, just find one aspect of the issue to focus on and continue to expand from there. My father, Darek Markiewicz, is the one who taught me beginner tips and tricks as a photographer and would dedicate his time during my school summers to go out and take photos and provide critiques. I also would like to dedicate my success to Gabriel Cheeley, Christopher Zavala, Ami Cobane, and all my other friends that have helped me throughout the years. They were my first models and potential clients and having them share my content on their social media platforms and with their friends and family shows their dedication to help me with my dreams and supporting my passions.
