We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashleigh Vlieger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashleigh, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since I was a kid, I’ve always been artistic. When I started shooting, I realized I could make a career out of photography. It would be hard, but I knew it would be worth it to do what I love. Being an artist for a living is something I never thought I would get to do in my life. I’m pretty blessed.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m about color and connection. I believe my work stands out from other photographers because of how my photos pop. I also like to tell a story with my clients through my images. It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today, and it still isn’t. Everyday I have to work hard, but it’s worth it! I’ve learned that everyday isn’t going to be easy. You are going to have hard days, and you aren’t going to make everyone happy. Watching people connect through my photos is why I love doing what I do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to Summit County. The Dillon/Frisco area is my favorite place in Colorado. We would head up to Moose Jaw in Frisco for some cheap beers, and then head over to Prost for some great German Sausages and live music. The next day we’d take a speedboat out onto Lake Dillon and cruise around and take in the beautiful scenery. We’d head up in the fall so we could go “Leaf Peepin”. Absolutely beautiful!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my family for buying my first DSLR camera and encouraging me to follow my dreams, and to work hard at what I love. Its’ paid off, and I owe them so much for believing in me.
