We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashlene Patten and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashlene, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My introduction to somatic therapeutics and breathwork came about from my own self-healing journey. It wasn’t just by myself though, it was actually through the process of allowing myself to receive support. My nervous system was highly dysregulated and I went through some hardships that had me look out for help and that’s when I found amazing therapists and facilitators. I found somatic therapy and my therapist recommended I try breathwork. My first breathwork was pretty profound. Within 10 minutes I felt this bolt of energy in my body as well as buzzing and tingling. I was like, “This is my energy??? This is just from my breath!?” It was probably the most empowered that I have ever felt in my own body. From learning about the power of somatic therapeutics and conscious connective breathwork, it has led me to a passionate journey of self healing and then led me to have the courage to become a facilitator of both breathwork and somatic therapeutics. As soon as I got certified, I got my LLC and started my own business, Heart-Led Prana. I always wanted to be of service to others and I wanted to help people get out of anxious patterning to be able to be more present with their loved ones and life. I wanted my clients to enjoy life and get out of survival mode. Now, 2.5 years in my business I look back and I am just so amazed at how this passion has turned into a business. I have helped hundreds of people learn the power and benefits of their breath, as well as, learning their own unique nervous system and how to regulate it. I have been in 70+ workshops, 4 retreats and have a in person practice in Denver, CO and online practice with amazing clients from all over. It’s been a joy to connect with the people I have through this journey of growing my business. I feel grateful for the continuous growth in the Heart-Led Prana community.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I feel that I embody this work just as much as I teach it. Through my own healing joruney and navigating my nervous system, I found tools to come back into my body. I connected with myself and others in a heart-centered way. I have now been teaching this to others by guiding my clients into their innate wisdom through nervous system regulation. That is something I am proud of. I go through trainings and learn more about how I can serve my community and create more of an understanding of this work.

I create a grounded space for clients to find out that behind their fears is their deepest desires. My 3-4 month programs help clients learn to get out of survival energy and back into creating safety in their nervous system for calm and joy. I put my heart into my work because I know this work has benefited me in such drastic ways. Heart-led prana is a movement to embrace wearing your heart on your sleeve and know it’s your greatest strength. We lead with our hearts to give others permission to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Denver has so much to offer!! I love the parks here so we would go to Cheesman or Washpark for just a relaxing day when the weather is nice. We would go see a show at redrocks. I take everyone who comes to visit to eat at Hop Alley in Rino. It’s my favorite! The Denver Art Museum is a gem I have been going the past couple of years. Such cool art, events and artists that are showcased there. Also, the Pearl Street farmers market on Sundays in the Summer and Fall is high on my list to support small businesses and vendors. I would then take a day trip to Golden, CO to swim in or walk beside the creek . After that, either a hike at North Table or have dinner at Sherpa House. IF they come in the winter we will be going to hot springs and snowboarding.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that contributed to my success. Breath by James Nestor is an amazing book that reveals the power of our breath and how when we learn how to breathe properly there are so many positive benefits that can happen physically, mentally and emotionally. Maddy Murphy, a friend who was first a yoga teacher that overheard me talking about wanting to be a breathwork facilitator has turned into a dear friend and first mentor. She simply invited me to coffee and that simple gesture changed the whole trajectory of my life. Amberle the founder of Empower Boxing Denver, allowed me to use her space to start my own breathwork workshops. Kaira Mayestra was a very helpful facilitator who did an amazing program about somatic therapeutics. Cat Storing, whom I consider a great friend, helped me embody the work of somatic therapeutics through our continual trade and practice. My friends, my partner and my family all believing in me and helping me to see this vision through on the other side has also been part of my continued success.
