We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Saupe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My podcast is all about “minimizing future outdoor accidents by way of storytelling. Real people, sharing real stories.” Each guest on my show shares an outdoor accident they were involved in from the very beginning to the end. When the story is finished, I ask, “what did you learn from the incident?” I give space for people to come forward and tell their story in a safe, non-judgemental, shame free environment in order for all of us to learn and grow. By producing this podcast for over ten years now, I have helped shift the outdoor culture from blame and shame to a culture of learning, sharing and growth.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of sticking with my podcast. There have been so many times that I’ve wanted to quit my own show because of how mentally, emotionally and financially difficult it is for me to maintain. I continue to do it for the guests, so they have a safe space to share their story. I do it for the listeners so they have a place where they can learn from others. The Sharp End Podcast has helped so many people. There are listeners all over the world, including the UK, Australia, South America and beyond. The impact this show has on the guests and listeners is so great that I continue to produce it for the people.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best fiend up to Leadville. I spent nine years working for the Outward Bound School and the Outward Bound base has a very special place in my heart.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank each and every single guest that has been on the Sharp End Podcast. It certainly is not easy to step outside of your comfort zone and be vulnerable to yourself and the outdoor community. The courage and bravery each guest has speaks volumes about the type of people that they are.
