Meet Megan Buyck | Wedding Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Buyck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
What initially sparked my passion for videography was watching films and documentaries that told stories of travel, other cultures and people all around the world. Stories of minorities or people groups who may be misunderstood and the beauty found in their stories and in who they are. Today, I continue to find myself inspired by people and their stories. Stories of love, the ups and downs of life, and how they became who they are today. I’m inspired by what those stories can teach us and the beauty that is found in humanity. Since starting to create and tell stories through film myself, I am inspired to bring those stories of others to life and evoke real emotion for the audience to feel the moments that are being captured. Within my industry of wedding videography I get to help tell others’ stories from one of the happiest days of their lives and bring a couples’ love story to life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a wedding videographer who values capturing the real, raw, and authentic moments that take place on a wedding day. I especially look for and emphasize the feelings that are felt on the wedding day. The feminine beauty and freedom you feel as you move in your dress, the tear-filled eyes when you see each other for the first time that day, the giddiness and laughter of getting ready and the excitement and cheers of being sent into your new season together. I believe there is something special about documenting your wedding day and having those moments. Years down the road, you will have a tangible way to reminisce on the day, those who were there surrounding you as you walked into marriage, and the emotion in your loved one’s voice. There will be nothing like it. That is what I find so beautiful and powerful about documenting life through video. It captures life’s moments and evokes emotion in a way that a photo and other mediums cannot.
I am where I am today because of Jesus and the ways He has worked in my life. I believe we were all created in the image of God who is the ultimate creator and storyteller and each of us were created with our own unique gifts. As a result, keeping God at the center of my business is deeply important to me. He placed this passion in me, and I want to use it to be a creative for the creator and show the love of Jesus through my work and through the way I serve the couples who entrust me to capture their wedding day. It has not always been easy to build a business from the ground up and have the faith in myself that I can do it. It really has been through trusting Jesus that I have seen His faithfulness to bring the right opportunities and the right people my way that have lead to growing my videography business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so much to do around Northern Colorado! I would take a friend to some of my favorite spots to eat and grab a drink. Places like: The Union, DC Oakes or Cafe Mexicali to eat and Elliot’s Martini Bar or Social for drinks if we’re in Fort Collins. For a coffee in the area I would have to suggest Lima Coffee Roasters in Fort Collins or Dark Heart in Loveland. There are so many fun activities around and many opportunities to get outside! I love a good stroll around Windsor Lake and grabbing an Italian soda at Windsor Lake Coffee. Horsetooth Reservoir is a must for a lake day or local hike. The Holiday Twin Drive-In movie theater is unique and I love to catch a movie there in the summers. Heading just west of Fort Collins is Howling Cow Cafe and it’s fun to head over there to enjoy the beautiful views of the foothills, chat with a friend or two and enjoy a flight of ice cream. There are endless possibilities and I love that this region of Colorado has so much to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I think of whose support and encouragement I wouldn’t be here without, it is my fiancé, Trent and my parents. Trent has always cheered me on as I pursued this passion of mine and lifted me up when I have had doubts. He is my very own on call tech support when I need help during the editing process. He even has shown up for me as my second videographer on wedding days that were a bit larger or when I needed the extra help in capturing all the moments that fly by on a wedding day. My parents have also been a huge source of support as I stepped back from my career in teaching soon after graduating college and decided to pursue videography not knowing where it would go. They made sure I knew that they were in my corner and cheering me on in whatever I chose to pursue. They have shown their support as proud parents through spreading the word of my business to everyone they meet. I am blessed to have such a great community of family and friends, there have been quite a few people who have encouraged me and invested in me and for that, I am so grateful.
