We had the good fortune of connecting with Aurose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi aurose, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been creative person. I would put on shows with my siblings when we were kids and preform them in front of our mom. I loved writing, acting, singing, and making whatever music I could come up with, despite whether or not it was any good (and I was no prodigy). It was definitely a “thought that counts” kind of enjoyment from her, I’m sure. But that support and encouragement lit a fire in me that helped me get to keep going.

That passion I had as a young child carried on throughout my adolescence. I was a theater kid (can you tell?), and I would write poetry in math class instead of doing any math. It wasn’t until the end of 2021, however, that I decided to revisit my passion for music, and I fell back into it headfirst.

Despite simply wanting to make music for fun or for myself, the poetic part of me made it clear to me that I had more that I wanted to create than only writing catchy lyrics or producing earworm melodies. I’m queer. I’m trans. I’m a giver and a lover. And I know that there are people like me who are as scared as I am out there who need to know that they aren’t alone in the chaos of what this country continues to go through, year after year. This is what keeps pulling me back to it. It’s therapeutic, absolutely. But most of all, it’s really damn important.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music is a way of blending worlds. My first album, a life in vibrant ecstasy, was predominantly hyperpop, with rap, trap, and heavy bass inspirations. But at its core, it’s about telling my story as a trans artist living in a country that profits off of despising people like me, and instead, molding that into something bigger than myself. I’m excited to keep creating and sharing those creations with the world. Believe me, there’s a lot coming, and I hope you’re ready for it. I know that I certainly am!

What sets me apart is the way I balance raw political energy with personal vulnerability, and I’m proud of how my music resonates with people who might not always feel seen or heard.

Getting here has definitely not been easy. I didn’t come from money at all, so I’ve had to be resourceful. I’ve taught myself everything I could learn about the entire creative process, and I am always creating, even during the times when every door I am presented with feels closed. Every challenge has pushed me to keep pursuing what I love, and I did that. You can’t fly for the first time without a leap of faith, so leap.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned along this creative journey are persistence and authenticity. If you keep creating because you love what you do, even when it feels like no one’s listening, the work eventually becomes undeniable.

What I want people to know about me is that I am still just a person, just like everyone else. The unknown is scary, but that won’t stop me from persisting, despite that fear, and despite that little devil on my shoulder telling me that I’ll never amount to the people who inspire me. I am, and will continue to be, stronger than that.

My story is about transformation, empowerment, and finding the strength to stand back up, even when the ground you’ve fallen onto feels almost too familiar to leave. I want to show that art can be revolutionary without losing its fun, its humor, or its heart, as many incredible artists before me have done. At the end of the day, I want people to walk away from my music feeling stronger, freer, and less alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to Denver for a week, I’d want them to experience the city the way I would if it were my first time. We’d start by digging through the crates at Wax Trax and grabbing a C&B at Voodoo Doughnut (IYKYK), then head out for a cocktail and a cheesy horror movie at Retrograde or some late-night goth vibes at Milk Bar.

Another day, we’d shop at FashioNation for boots we probably can’t afford and stop at The Crypt for lunch. Midweek, we’d catch a show at Red Rocks, which never disappoints, and save the energy for a night out at Tracks on a different night for some queer club vibes.

Later in the week, we’d peruse The Oddemporium to look ant oddities and curiosities, grab some tots at The Brutal Poodle and finish the night at HQ for a local show.

A night at Mission Ballroom would be great too, but sometimes something smaller and more intimate feels right.

Honestly, I don’t think I could ever make the perfect itinerary. There’s too much to do, and we haven’t even talked about the mountains yet…

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my mother, whom, without her encouraging me to be myself and do what makes me happy, I wouldn’t be where I am in life right now. Mom, if you’re reading this, I just want to say thank you for teaching me to never give up, and for being my number one fan since day one.

And I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my chosen family as well, whose love, support, positivity, and kindness always remind me that I am never alone, and that I have people in my life that would truly do anything for me, just as I would for them. And yes, they know who they are. To any of those reading, thank you for always being there for me. I’ll be there for you as long as you’d like me to be, and that’s a promise.
