We had the good fortune of connecting with Barry Jennings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barry, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In my time working within the tech industry, I noticed a growing emphasis on sales targets that sometimes overshadowed customer satisfaction. This sparked a passion in me to create something different. Jennings AV was born from the idea that exceptional customer service shouldn’t be a luxury – it should be the standard. We take a client-centered approach, focusing on truly understanding your needs and exceeding your expectations throughout the entire project. At Jennings AV, we underpromise and overdeliver, because we believe in making your vision a reality.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ever since I was a kid, I knew I was destined for a career in technology, though the specific path remained unclear. In high school, I explored this by taking every trades class I could, with electronics topping the list. I also delved into other areas like metalwork, shop class, building trades, plastics, auto mechanics, and drafting – all valuable experiences that broadened my skillset. Outside of school, my interests manifested as a knack for handyman work and even landscaping. To top it off, during high school, my father and I tackled a challenging project: rebuilding a house that had suffered significant fire damage. This hands-on experience further solidified my interest in working with my hands and problem-solving in practical ways.
After graduating, I opted for a hands-on approach instead of college. I gained valuable experience in various factory and construction jobs. From electrical and plumbing work to drywalling, framing, and roofing, I tackled a diverse range of tasks. This period also saw me working as a mover – a serendipitous experience that led me to the world of AV integration.
Through a new friend working as a commercial AV integration installer, I discovered a field that resonated deeply with my skillset and interests. Just hearing him describe his work, I knew I had found my calling. While nepotism played a role in his company, his encouragement fueled my determination.
My persistence paid off. After calling the company several times a week, I finally secured an interview. Despite being told multiple times that the position had been filled by the owner’s nephew, they continued the interview due to my sheer determination. They explained the career path and its requirements, prompting two key questions from me: who their competitors were (if they weren’t hiring) and if there was a skills assessment.
While I expressed my lack of experience and admitted to educated guesswork on the test, the examiner saw potential in my approach. Ignoring nepotism, he recognized my passion and hinted at an immediate offer, though he wouldn’t reveal competitor details. True to his word, he contacted me the next day, and I was offered the job.
Three months later, I earned my first CTS certification and established myself as a lead technician on-site. This experience validated my intuition that AV was the perfect fit.
Years later, with the tech landscape shifting towards networked components, I recognized the need to stay ahead of the curve. This led me back to school for a Bachelor of Science degree in IT Networks. It proved to be one of the best decisions I’ve made, propelling me to where I am today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado off ers a great variety of activities to do. We would enjoy local restuarants like El Camino tavern and Edgewater inn Pizza, go bowling at Wheat Ridge lanes, see Red Rocks and take a
drive around the mountains. We would then go play disc golf and see some of the local places like Fly green disc golf stores learning lounge. I would also take them to the Downtown Aquarium as well as Ball area for some great events.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Faith has always played a big role in my life, and I’m grateful for the skills and dedication it’s helped me develop. Thanks to that, I was able to take the leap into business ownership. Speaking of taking leaps, Storyline Church has been a rock for me. They’re a fantastic community resource, and they’ve always been there to lend a hand. It’s been an honor to help out with their security, and their trust has meant a lot.
And of course, a huge thanks to all my amazing customers! You’re the reason I get to keep doing what I love.
