We had the good fortune of connecting with Benjamin Mueller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Benjamin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I spent many years working for large corporations where I felt, my only purpose, was to help those that had, get more while the worker bees struggled to make it. In 2008, I made the leap to start helping small to mid-sized businesses build accounting departments that didn’t just provide information for filing taxes, but to truly dig in and help them move their businesses move forward and build something that they may not have expected in terms of success. Secondly, I was done “burning the candle at both ends” for a salary that allowed my family to be J.O.B. “Just Over Broke”. I wanted more out of life and I knew that the talent I had would translate into more than just a J.O.B. and create a life with my wife and 4 children that I was proud of. I didn’t want to leave this life, whenever that may be, just saying, “Well I worked hard”.

What should our readers know about your business?

Blue Collar CFO is a small accounting firm that only works with small to mid-sized businesses on a fractional basis to help those businesses afford the value that a high level accountant can provide them.

I am a highly organized, analytical, and an accomplished CFO, Controller, and Accounting Consultant that has been in a variety of business industries with emphasis in month end & year end close, financial statement preparation & analysis, restatement, fraud investigations, start-up & accounting department development.

What I am most proud of is the relationships that I create with my clients. I am a very genuine person and, because of that, I am able to create trust with my clients quickly to form a great foundation to work from. I become a friend to these people and, when that type of relationship is present, things that are otherwise unsaid due to fear, are said and the result helps them see what can be done in their businesses.

I am a people person and there is nothing more important than how we interact with each other. Nothing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the mountains so I would take them down HWY 285 during the fall colors. As far as Denver, we would go down to 16th street mall and find a good Mexican restaurant!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Father. My Dad was a farmer in MN for many years until his farm was gobbled up by large corporations. At 50 years old, he transitioned into becoming a small engine mechanic. He was not a scholar but did his best to provide for his family. He showed me what work ethic was and, is the main reason why I have the drive that I have, in terms of my work life. He showed me that nothing was beneath him and I take that into my role as a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) as I am completely willing to do what is needed, at any level of the process, to ensure that the information I am providing is accurate and timely.
