We had the good fortune of connecting with Brad Farson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brad, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Putting together a book to help people through the hiring process was on my heart for a long time. I received help and I want to pay it forward! I saw a gap. No one is doing it quite like me. There is a lot of good info out there but I like to deliver the goods in a bite size pieces often times in a fun, goofy way.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got my EMT in 2011, I worked at Mount Hood in Oregon in a ski patrol type role, then I worked in the ER for a long time. Testing with fire departments, paying my dues, working the night shift, attending orientations, figuring out what it takes to become a professional firefighter. It was not easy, I almost gave up, started looking at the nursing route and then was like “I’ve come to far to give up now!” I learned to measure my time to getting on in years. I learned that many people get hired “later on in life”. I have a lot of lessons to pass on. That’s truly part of my whole business. Learn from my mistakes and successes. I want people to know that firefighting is an amazing career and that I’m here to do them get hired anywhere in the United State.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend to grab a coffee at Peregrine in Westcliffe, CO. We would then catch a powder day at Monarch. After riding we would relax in the hot springs at Mount Princeton. We would spend the night in Salida after grabbing dinner there. That would leave my buddy being like “We need to do this all the time.” My wife and I call that round “The good day loop”.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
