We had the good fortune of connecting with Breann Colpitts, Ed.S, CLYL and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breann, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process for starting my own business was a combination of experiencing burnout working in public schools and seeing a need for supporting neurodivergent minds with social emotional learning. I started the business with a friend and co-founder and that made me feel braver to leave a sure thing for the unknown because we were making the leap together. We knew the market would pay for our services, but creating an actual business was a steep learning curve! It definitely helped having a partner to co-create with and to have the freedom to do things on our own terms.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
There are other folks who help kids with social skills in the area, but NO ONE who does it through a three brains approach. Yep, we have 3 brains and we need to consider how they are interconnected when helping a client reach their personal-social goals. A big factor in supporting clients with improving social skills is helping them with nervous system regulation! When our fast paced social world is hard to navigate, it’s also hard to regulate one’s nervous system. My absolute favorite way to help clients with this is through Laughter Yoga exercises. I’m super proud to be the ONLY social coach who is also a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader in the area! Putting my expertise as a school psychologist, social coach, and laughter yogi together makes the offerings at Successfully Social Colorado unlike anything else offered (except for at our sister branch in MA)!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestie was visiting the area we’d have to take in a show and brunch at the Mercury Cafe, a Denver institution! I’d make sure they know about the good work that Denver Community Fridge is doing as we tour the local free fridges, adding period products to all the pantries as we go. If we were lucky, we’d catch a show at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons and hopefully stay across the highway at Wee Casa in the tiny house village. We’d end our trip with a member morning stroll at the Denver Botanic Gardens with picnic provisions from Leever’s Locavore and later eat some fish tacos at Illegal Pete’s on the patio.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to Allison Marean, my co-founder at Successfully Social. She’s my bestness partner and when we mastermind together, we are unstoppable!
