We had the good fortune of connecting with Brennan Molleur and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brennan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Both my Father and Grandfather were self-employed. I watched them be their own bosses from a very young age in my life. My father always told me how even though he had to work harder than most, he was comfortable with the fact that the risk was his own to manage, he never had to report to anyone else or work on someone else’s time. My grandfather started a construction business in 1969, my father would go on to take over the business in 2001. I worked with my Father every summer since I was 12 years old. When I came back from college five years ago, I went into the family business full-time. I learned everything about the construction trades from my Dad in that time. After being a project manager in residential construction the last 3 years, I decided it was time to take on my own risk and open up my own General contracting business. My thought process behind this was that I could take on my own clients and build my own projects how I saw they made sense. I still work with my Dad and his business every day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve always had a passion for working with my hands and watching something get built before my own eyes. I am a very visual person so construction has always been gratifying to me. I noticed in college that everyone wanted to work from their laptop or from the office. knew no one who was planning on going into the trades. Being a construction owner, my Dad would always tell me he could never find a good employee or new guys to hire. This put the lightbulb on in my head because I knew if I could become great at building, that in 10 years, I wouldn’t have much competition my age.

What sets me apart in the construction industry is that I love to do content creation and social media advertising for my projects. There are really only a hand few of guys in the trades that even have a Facebook for their company. Even though my business is 20 years younger than the premiere contractors in my county, I find myself getting most of the lead generation because clients are able to view my work via social media and see the quality and how we run our show firsthand. I’ve been posting all my projects to my YouTube page, Ballad of B Molleur, for about 2 years now. Within the last year, I’ve seen a big spike in clients reaching out solely on my socials.

I’d like the world to know how eager my brand & I are towards bettering the community. A lot of people can feel good making a dollar by taking it from the next man, but that’s not me. My moral compass has always tried to steer me in the direction of making people feel good about themselves. Construction and building gives me that feeling when you know you did a great job for a great person. You can really see the joy on peoples faces when it comes out how they were hoping it would. Building homes is no small investment and so we take pride in being the ones chosen to do right by people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When you live in the Rocky Mountains, most of the best places to go are outside. The air is fresh, the Mountains are glowing, and typically, the noise is quiet.

Twin Lakes, Colorado is right in the backyard of our hometown, Leadville, Colorado. This is where we develop most of our projects due to the influx in growth based on the beauty of the scenery. You can fish, swim, or just plain hang out around one of the most beautiful lakes in Colorado.

The Treeline Kitchen is definitely the best place in town to eat. They have the best fried crab wontons, and their chicken sandwich is to die for. This place has a nice ambiance to it where you can take off your hiking shoes or work boots and put on a nice clean button up for an awesome dinner setting. The owners are local and some of my favorite people in Town. You can expect a short wait for a table any day of the week, so come or call in early!

After a long week of work or play, we will cruise 20 minutes down the canyon to beautiful Buena Vista, which is the next town over. There they have one of the nicest hot springs I have ever been to, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. It sits right under the mountain and has some of the best views to take a long relaxing soak. They have an adult section where you can get a little privacy away from some of the Denver Traffic. They also sell crafts beers and fruit smoothies to wash down all the worries of the previous weeks stresses. We usually go here at least once every 2 weeks because it makes for the best night sleep ever.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I’d like to thank my Father, Scott Molleur, for showing me the value in hard-work and perseverance. He got up everyday bright and early the last thirty years to chase his dreams and support his family. He taught me how to spin a wrench and how to operate heavy machinery. I look up to him very much and I continue to try and make him proud.

Secondly, I’d like to thank my Mother, Tracy Molleur, who supported my Dad and his dreams from the very beginning. There wasn’t always a lot of work or building going on during the recession of 2008, and when things got really tight financially, my mom stayed true to my dad and her family. She has the best interpersonal skills of anyone I have ever met, and I’ve learned how to work with clients and better my sales skills from her examples.

Lastly, my amazing wife, Bailey Molleur, deserves credit and recognition for being the heart of my ambition. Whenever I have doubt or imposter syndrome, she is right there to look me in my eye and tell me I’m worthy. If it weren’t for her and her support, I would have never taken the leap of faith of starting my own business and journey in being an owner / operator.
