We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Hansen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I love the Beauty industry and I wanted to make sure that I created a safe and fun environment for other stylist to work in where we all support each other and lift each other up! The Beauty industry can be a cutthroat industry and I wanted to make sure that I kept it being positive and supporting other women in the industry whether they worked with me or owned their own salon I wanted to make sure we all support each other!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I opened suite C is Salon almost 6 years ago and when I first opened I opened as a booth rent salon but I learned along the way I wanted to switch it to a commission salon to where we are all more on the same page about the color we were using products we were using. I feel like switching to commission was the best choice because we became more of a team and I can set it up to have educators come in and teach classes which I think helps with recruiting employees to want to come and work with us we always continue education I’m always happy to pay for their continued education. Then in January 2020 I opened a Frenchies Modern Nail Care in Fort Collins we Open for six weeks and then had to shut down for six weeks. I would say the hardest part in owning my businesses was going through Covid and making sure all of my employees were taken care of checking in on them and just making sure everyone was OK when we were closed for those six weeks. I think the biggest lessons I have learned just to let your employees know how much you appreciate them and make sure they are always checking in with them and seeing what they need and always being willing to help and genuinely caring about them. I would say the biggest things about the two salons I own and our brand is that we genuinely care about each other and we really just want to support everyone in our industry and make sure that we’re providing a great place to work where people can build their Clientele and where we all support each other.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends come to town I would take them to the tavern in Windsor and peculiar ale brewery and I would definitely bring them into Suite C Salon for an amazing blow out and take them to Frenchies for a manicure and pedicure! I would also take them shopping to coast to coast and lemons and lace and JB Elliott!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say my shout out would have to go to my parents and my dad’s always been an entrepreneur and opened several different businesses and my mom has been in HR for many and has been so unbelievable helpful to me in opening my two businesses and I definitely couldn’t do it without their support. My mom also has been an strong supporter of women in business so she has taught me to always be respectful of other women and try and help lift women up.
