Meet Caiden Boyt | Fly Fishing Guide and Owner of Find A Fly Fishing Guide LLC.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Caiden Boyt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caiden, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Find A Fly Fishing Guide LLC has been an idea of mine for the last several years. I have been guiding in the fly fishing industry for the last six years and I wanted to help bridge a gap that has been missing. I wanted clients to be able to reach out and talk to guides and outfitters before ever hitting the water.
I’ve had the opportunity to talk to a lot of clients over the years and I got to learn about what would help them find reliable guides and outfitters and take the first step into booking a trip on the water. I also wanted to help fly fishing guides book more trips year round and give them the opportunity to get themselves in front of clients at a low cost.
It can be hard navigate the internet with so much content these days and I wanted to make it easier for clients and guides to get in touch with each other. I felt that Find A Fly Fishing Guide LLC would be the perfect tool to help both clients and guides. Since I have grown a great network with guides and clients across the US, I felt compelled to create a tool that would help everyone and help bind the guiding industry.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Find A Fly Fishing Guide LLC is a website that fly fishing guides and outfitters can create profiles for others to view. Each profile has images, a bio section, website links, and a review section. Fly fishing clients can search a specific area or waterway and the prospective guide and outfitters profiles will generate.
There is not another site similar that is purely meant for the fly fishing industry where people can find, reach out, and leave reviews for guides and outfitters. This is a hassle free site that is easy to navigate and find outfitters and guides in areas where people are interested in.
I am really excited for the day when the site has guides and outfitters on every main drainage in the US. There are plenty of barriers to overcome before this happens but it is an exciting experience. To be able to find guides and outfitters across the U.S. from one website will be a really unique tool.
Networking is probably the single most important thing for where I am today business-wise. I am able to talk to a wide variety of people in different industries and brainstorm ideas that I would never have thought of. Not everyone thinks the same and being open to new ideas is huge in being successful for me.
The other key part of where I am today is being able to adjust. Having a clear vision an idea is the start, but climbing the business mountain has some difficulties. Being able to adjust to the situation and change routes has definitely been a huge part of my career. It can be hard to veer away from your original plans, but it’s crucial to adapt and change as the circumstances change.
There are plenty of lessons that I have learned along the way, but the golden lesson for me is don’t make the same mistake twice. Learning from mistakes and failures has helped me grow as a person and as a business. I have made mistakes during the whole process but they have all been new mistakes. They show themselves in different ways but I have started to get better at connecting the dots and slowing the process down so I don’t repeat any.
I want everyone to know that Find A Fly Fishing Guide LLC isn’t going anywhere. It is going to continue to grow and improve and it’s only going to become more useful. As the guiding industry changes and adapts to new times (serious increase in fisherman and women), so will the website. Find A Fly Fishing Guide LLC will constantly be adjusting to the needs of consumers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a good friend come to Durango we would definitely go to Ska Brewing for an evening. Great atmosphere, beer, and food. We are surrounded by National Forest in this area and you could spend a lifetime exploring new waterways and trails and not see the same thing twice.
If there was no time constraint spending a day in Horse Gulch mountain biking would be on the agenda. It can be busy at times but there is some awesome riding to be done.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Starting my business would not have happened if I didn’t have the support of my immediate family and friends. I was able to bounce all my ideas off of numerous people and get constant feedback. My parents played a crucial role in showing me how to turn an idea, into a course of action to get the business up and going. Having a vision and making that vision happen, are two very different things.
There were times where it felt like there was too much to do, with too little time. My parents would always hit me with “what’s the next step”. This simple quote helped me continue to grow and achieve things that didn’t seem possible.
I have worked for several different Outfitters and Fly Shops and the owners have really supported me with ideas concerning the industry. Kevin Leggitt, Joel Condren, Will Blanchard, and Derek Ems have all given me great insight on how Fly Shop and Outfitters owners will think and accept my business idea. I am thankful for their willingness to share info and give me some insight on how the industry may accept and use Find A Fly Fishing Guide LLC.
“The Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle” by Jim Rohn, is a book that I found myself reading consistently through my business start up. Although the book is not about business, there are many eye opening ideas in the book that helped me continue to push forward.
