Meet Victoria Atencio | Lifestyle Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Atencio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, what principle do you value most?
One principle that matters most to me is availability. I strive to be fully available to my clients not only when taking their photos but throughout the entire photography process, from start to finish! I truly believe that I can only serve others well when taking their photos by being available. I like to capture what I like to call “peak moments”, these are candid moments that can’t be recreated. At Peak Pixel Photo I want to make anyone feel at ease, and excited to have their photograph taken by me. This principle of being available is not only important when working with clients but it is important when pursuing any creative avenue. I am always trying to be available, and open to learning new things about photography!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most excited about the future of my photography business. In the past year my most successful photography session was my fall mini photoshoot. I am excited about offering more themed mini sessions in the new year! I would say that it’s not always easy pursuing something that you truly care about professionally. But if it’s important to you, you will find a way to integrate your passions into your life. Never limit yourself and always be open to new opportunities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would say Manitou Springs is a favorite little town of mine its fun to go grab something to eat and look at all of the shops. If a visitor likes to hike and would want to take on a challenge i would take them on the Incline. If they felt like going on a more easy hike Garden of the Gods, and Red Rocks Open Space are a couple of my favorite places to go hiking. Old Colorado City, and Cottonwood Center for the Arts for a First Friday art walk is always another activity that i enjoy. Some of my other favorite places to hang out in Colorado Springs are City Rock, Loyal Coffee, and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has always been supportive of my artistic abilities. My parents bought me my first camera when I was 10. It was what would now be considered a “vintage” Barbie camera. That was what first sparked my interest in photography. I was always interested in taking photos of people and events. My family is so important to me, and that’s probably why I enjoy taking family portraits for others so much!
I would also like to give a shoutout to my photography teacher, and fellow concert buddy Allison Earnest – Allison Earnest Photography. Allison was a mentor to me when I was working at The Broadmoor World Arena. She taught me so much about concert photography, and many tips, and tricks with the camera. I will never forget all of the concerts we photographed together, and friendship that was created though photography.
I have many friends, and mentors that are not in the photography field but are in the creative arts field who have supported me and my business. I am thankful for the community I have found at Cottonwood Center for the Arts. My pottery teacher Kris Saxton, and fellow potters Jen Friedberg – Bespoke Beast Ceramics, and Veronica PremDas – Premadasa are some of my biggest supporters and mentors.
Shout out to everyone who has trusted me to take your photo! I know that it takes some trust to let someone capture important moments. I have enjoyed the journey so far, and if you are reading this hopefully I will be able to take your photo soon.
