We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Donatelli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carrie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
One thing I learned while being a stay at home mom was that I needed interaction with other adults. I needed to use my mind, be constructive and use my skills to help others. Helping people has always been something I’m passionate about. As my daughter started becoming more independent, I knew it was the right time to get started. I started writing my business plan during the Summer before I launched my business, so I could get the groundwork laid to start strong. I mapped out what I needed to do to start, costs associated and a created a plan for marketing myself and my business. Then, when my daughter started attending school full time, I executed my plan and got started!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?Peak Business Group, LLC is a one-stop shop for small business operations services. I offer bookkeeping, business plans, cost forecasting, financial analysis, sales tax filing, forms & confidentiality, Human Resources and Payroll services. I offer my clients one-on-one interaction and encourage lots of communication. Communication is the key in the work that I do; I can’t do my job efficiently without clear communication with my clients. My first goal for the next six months is to expand Peak to include more help with bookkeeping, so that I can accommodate more clients and still maintain the high quality services I currently offer. Peak Business Group stands apart from other similar businesses because I put a face to the services. Finances are tricky and as a business owner, it’s never easy to share the ‘Financial Reins’. I am approachable, friendly, kind, and relatable. I ask my clients to email, text or call me if they have questions or issues about anything I’m doing for them. I welcome constructive criticism so that I can learn what they need from me in order to provide exemplary customer service. Based on feedback I’ve received from clients, these qualities are somewhat lacking with other companies. Financial service providers, especially, tend to be unresponsive and only concerned about the numbers. I work hard to position Peak Business Group as a responsive, adaptable and relatable alternative to larger companies who can’t always provide personalized solutions.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is such a hard question to answer about Colorado. It’s so beautiful here, I’d want to show my friend the entire state, which would take more than a few days! I think to start, I’d take my friend out for dinner and drinks in Downtown Denver. Then we’d head West to the mountains, to see the beautiful, golden Aspen trees in the Fall, enjoy a wildflower tour in Estes Park, and hit up the hot springs in Glenwood Springs.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m a big fan of the Denver Boss Babe Collective! This is a facebook networking group chock full of POWERHOUSE women entrepreneurs. I’ve received so many referrals, constant encouragement and solid friendships from this group of amazing ladies! I’ve also gained massive confidence and business skills from Rachel Hollis’s books, Girl, Wash Your Face and Girl, Stop Apologizing. Lastly, Mike Michalowicz’s Profit First accounting system has been a game changer in my business. How I run my own business and how I advise my clients has changed due to this process!
