We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Woolcott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mark, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own brand was really a very organic process. I began taking pictures of bike racing around 2009. From there I combined my English degree with my cycling photography and someone asked what my company was called. I bounced around a bunch of contrived names and settled on Mark Woolcott Photogrpahy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When someone talks about Artists or Creatives, I am very hesitant to put myself in that category. I have taken hundreds of images of AMAZING artists and creatives and I am constantly amazed at just how CREATIVE and forward thinking they are. I like to think of myself as more of a craftsman. I have a set of tool, I use those tools everyday and fine-tune how they are used. Shaping light and shadow …bending color and form all contribute to the final product that I am building.
One of the aspected that I think sets me apart from other photographers is my love for people. I LOVE to talk to people and can truly find the beauty in anyone. The human experience, the interaction with others is the part of my job I absolutely love. I thrive of getting someone to relax and show me something they might not show another photographer.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would head to the mountains. Nothing is better than a week in the mountains surrounded by trees, water, good food, friends and whiskey.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have worked with a ton of great clients that have given me a shot at creating content for them. But really it all comes back to home. My wife supports my creative process at every turn.
