We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy Garbus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Along with my three business partners, we were committed to designing a model that allowed for excellent, dignified care, a relationship with patients, and provider satisfaction. I was the patient who never fit in the “box” of Western medicine, so it was also important to me that we incorporate an integrative side to our practice for those patients. This allows us to offer a spectrum of the best of Western medicine through a functional/integrative approach and meet any patient where they are coming from.

What should our readers know about your business?
Big Life is a heart and soul investment by the four partners who founded it. With two of us on the medical side and two on the business side, we all knew our roles and lanes to bring this dream to life. The idea was born summer of 2022 and we took possession of our building Jan 1, 2023. We flipped the space in just 30 days ourselves–paint, hammers, nails, happy helper husbands, and a lot of late nights. We had children napping on the floor as we worked tirelessly to transform our building into a space of warmth, comfort, and hospitality. Every detail matters and we wanted to ensure that patients felt at home when they walked through our doors. We are now just a few months shy of 3 years old and just extended our space another 3,ooo square feet as we have grown and need the space to continue to take on more patients and bring more services under our roof.

We offer a spectrum from the best of Western Medicine to a Functional Medicine approach. This means we can meet you wherever you are on your healthcare journey. Direct primary care is an affordable membership-based model where patients pay monthly for easy access to the provider team, seamless communication, same-day availability, and longer visits to address the whole person in care. Our goal is to keep you out of urgent care/ER and manage as much as we can in-house before we send you to a specialist. Beyond primary care, we also manage hormones, weight-loss, skin care, peptides, IV therapy, joint pain with injections, and skin checks/mole removal to name a few services. We are an innovative team that loves to learn and always aim to be on the front end of new data and change for our patients. Heard something on a podcast? Let’s talk about it! If we don’t know about it, we will look it up. If you are the mystery patient that doesn’t fit in the box, let’s try a root-cause approach with functional medicine. We love to walk with our patients, truly manage their whole person, and help them feel well so they can live their “Big Life”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would get outside to experience the sunshine! We would explore the local mountains hiking in Golden and Evergreen. We would find a spot for lunch in Evergreen and walk around the lake (or ice skate in the winter). If it’s summertime we would tube down the river in Golden and maybe do a brewery tour. We’d check out Wash Park in downtown Denver for an evening walk or some pick-up volleyball and then have dinner at True Foods Kitchen or Flower Child in Cherry Creek. We’d make it to 16th street and find a sporting game or concert to attend downtown and find dinner or dessert on Larimer street after dark.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is dedicated to my three business partners. There is no “I” in this accomplishment, and this is a full team effort. Devon Nelson, FNP, Meghan Vincent, and Katie Smith. We each have our area of expertise that allowed this vision to form and come to life as quickly as it did!
