Meet Yamila CruzMartinez

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yamila CruzMartinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yamila, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work-life balance is something I’ve come to value more deeply over the years, especially as I’ve grown in my career as a chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner. In the beginning, it was easy to get caught up in the hustle: wanting to help as many people as possible and pouring all my time into work. But I’ve learned that I can only show up fully for my patients when I’m also showing up for myself.
For me, balance isn’t about perfect schedules or rigid boundaries—it’s about being intentional. I’ve established a few non-negotiables in my weekly routine: I do yoga once or twice a week, I go to the gym several times, I spend time in nature with my dog, and I make space for family, solitude, and stillness. These are the things that ground me and recharge me so I can be present and effective in my work.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
my mission is to help people reclaim their health and take control of their lives. What sets my practice apart is a truly personalized, root-cause approach. I don’t just focus on symptoms: I work with my patients to understand what’s really going on in their bodies, their lifestyles, and their environments. My goal is always long-term transformation, not quick fixes.
Getting to where I am today in business was definitely not easy. I’ll be honest , I’ve always been passionate about healing and service, but business was never my strong suit. If it were up to me, I’d give everything away for free just to help people! But the reality is, that model doesn’t work — not only because you have to pay your bills, but also because I learned that when people don’t invest in their care, they often don’t fully commit to it. That was a hard truth for me to accept.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t do everything alone and you don’t have to. I’m deeply grateful to the mentors, doctors, CPAs, lawyers, and other experts who have helped guide me through the business side of things. Their support and knowledge have been invaluable. Surrounding yourself with the right team makes a world of difference.
What I want the world to know is this: I truly care. I’m here to support people not just with treatment plans, but with compassion, education, and empowerment. My story is still unfolding I am excited for what else is there. A year ago I published my First Book ( is in Spanish) “ Sin dietas, con hábitos”. I want to continue helping people and making a positive impact.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m all about wellness, nature, and good food — so I’d plan the trip around stunning hikes, healthy eats (think paleo-friendly), and grounding experiences that showcase the beauty and spirit of Colorado.
We’d start by exploring downtown — We’d grab a healthy welcome dinner at Vital Root. Take a stroll around Larimer Square, Botanical Gardens.
Another day: We’d get up early for a sunrise walk or workout at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which is magical at that hour. Visit Downtown Golden and have a healthy lunch there.
Third day Maybe a yoga class at a local studio, a visit to a float spa or infrared sauna, and brunch at Just BE Kitchen. We can also visit Cherry cCreek park with my dog Bori.
Visit Boulder. Chautauqua Park or Mount Sanitas — great trails with beautiful views. Lunch would be light and nourishing at Flower Child or Zeal, and we’d make time to relax at the Dushanbe Tea House, a cultural gem with beautiful architecture and calming vibes.
Longmont is another good place, we can go biking around trails, visit downtown Longmont I love the Indian Restaurant there. Go to the dog parks there as well.
If we catch a weekend there are several farmers markets we can choose from.
What I love about Colorado is how it naturally supports a healthy, active lifestyle — it’s easy to feel alive here. Whether you’re into outdoor adventure, mindful living, or nourishing food, there’s something for everyone. I always say: if you want to reconnect with your body, mind, and nature — this is the place to be.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have influenced and supported me along the way, but if I had to dedicate this shoutout to someone, it would be 2 of my mentors: Dr. Rafer Leach MD and Dr. Segarra DC.
Dr. Leach was one of my early mentors and former bosses, and working with him had a big impact on how I approach both patient care and the business side of healthcare in a multidisciplinary clinic. Dr. Segarra guided me in the Functional Medicine approach.
We cross paths with people who help shape our direction, even if only for a season, and I’m grateful for the ways they helped guide me during an important stage of my professional
