We had the good fortune of connecting with Connor Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Connor, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We saw a need in the market for a b2b service that would link grows, processors, and stores together across the state. During this time there were only individuals doing this and no structured services with multiple representatives to be able to market products. With this current structure the space lacked organization and reliability. There was also no accountability since the current structure was only made up of individuals. With the current structure we saw an opportunity to come in and create a team that people could depend on for all of their wholesale needs. With the team of four sales representatives we now had the ability to divide and cover the entire state. This allowed us to bring products from the western slope to the Denver area and visa versa.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Source Colorado is a full-service sales force for buyers and sellers of wholesale cannabis. We provide licensed cultivators, dispensaries, and processors with the connections they need to expand their network and grow their business. Our account managers travel statewide searching for Colorado’s premier cannabis suppliers and retailers. We carefully choose which licensed facilities we will represent and sign contracts with our handpicked suppliers. This allows us to secure better pricing and those savings get passed on the wholesale buyer. At first it was a struggle to get people to accept the idea and process we provided. We received a lot of criticism due the stigma on the current broker model in the industry. We pushed to provide excellent customer services and build long term relationships. When people had an issue we were there and this helped to over that stigma. Lessons we learned is to stick to your plan and always following through and showing up when problems arise. Picking up the phone and addressing things as they come gains you a lot of respect and shows that you will be there to help in the future.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Straight from the airport to My Brothers Bar to grab lunch and then head out to the mountains. With offices in Denver and Crested Butte we love to spend most of our time in the mountains. Salida / Crested Butte / Ouray / Silverton our some of our favorite spots to hang. When in Denver we really enjoy the good food the city has to offer. Urban Farmer/Sushi Den/Uncle/Uchi
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
During the time of starting Source Colorado we had multiple friends in the industry on the cultivation and retail side they definitely helped us see where the gaps where in the supply chain. With their insight and past experiences we were able to put something together that filled many needs in the industry.
