Meet Corina Carrillo-Claxton | Salon i& Boutique Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Corina Carrillo-Claxton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create a space that was intimate and cultivated with the understanding that women are so hard on themselves and the changes our bodies go through, that it was time to give back confidence and assurance.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Coming from sunny Cali, the hustler quality is STRONG. Learning, expanding your knowledge in your craft, and knowing the business aspect of creating your business is ESSENTIAL. You’re not just unlocking the door and pulling an 8 hour day. You’re unlocking the door and laying out an experience! I am proud that I was able to build an amazing Salon & Spa in CA, and then come here (CO) and start to do it all over again. Building a business isn’t easy. You have a game of balance that starts immediately. You have the ugly side of business, the customer service, employee culture, so so much. It’s not for the faint of heart.
I’ve learned so much along the way (over 10 years to be exact). Business partners are almost never a good thing to pursue, CONTRACTS! They are a must! Accountant and book keeper, know your platform and social media! Know when to rest and don’t be lazy. My name is Corina. I am the owner of Corina’s Salon & Boutique. I’m proudly bringing a little California flair, trendy and healthy hair, and positive affirmations to Monument, CO.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OMG- my family is coming to visit soon and I MADE AN ITINERARY! You’ve gotta do this.
We’re grabbing breakfast burritos from Black Forest in downtown Monument, and don’t forget a yummy chai from there too. I’ll take a brisk walk and little hike at Garden of the gods, and spend the morning in Manitou window shopping and sightseeing. If we’re up to it, we might take a hike there too. Will probably save our lunch and eat a big dinner while playing top golf in Colorado Springs. And since the sunsets late in the summer, will head back to Palmer Lake, throw some wine in our sippy cups and take a walk around Palmer Lake. It’s so gorgeous and relaxing. Other places that I’m taking them to are Breckenridge, Ouray, Estes Park, and all the attractions that it brings. While we are in Breckenridge, we definitely will be having lunch at one of my favorite spots for pizza. (I can’t remember the name right now) and checking out the big troll. Ouray has so much hiking!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many names and I feel that saying one name alone will leave out another name. It takes a COMMUNITY. It takes a village. It takes ME finding my circle. From my husband, my family, and all the other bad-ass entrepreneurs who have walked through my doors and have shared my marketing!
